My Thoughts On The Final Justice League Trailer

So Warner Bros. dropped off a final trailer for next month's Justice League movie. It's the fourth trailer for a motion picture whose marketing campaign I've been mostly apathetic to. I really did thoroughly enjoy that first teaser trailer from Comic-Con last year, but the subsequent two trailers just didn't get me hyped and the other elements of the marketing, like a flood of images of Batman, Wonder Woman and The Flash standing around, haven't done much to garner my interest. Like I said though, there is a final trailer out now, so let's see if it does anything to reverse my aforementioned apathy.

My Thoughts On The Dark Tower Trailer

Despite the fact that it's coming out on August 4th, you'd be hard-pressed to find evidence that the new Dark Tower movie even existed considering the previously non-existent marketing campaign
Sony/Columbia has been putting up for the motion picture. Aside from a solitary poster and some footage shown off exclusively to movie theater owners at CinemaCon, nada, nothing! But that changed this morning when Sony/Columbia finally decided to throw the world a bone and give this long in-development movie a trailer! Check it out and my thoughts on it below!

My Thoughts On The New Cars 3 Trailer

Like all summers since 2006 (sans 2014), the hot months of this years bring forth a new PIXAR movie, with this year's newest movie being Cars 3, the newest entry in the animated saga that aggravates adults and sells billions of dollars in merchandise to children. I'm a big fan of the first Cars movie myself despite some major flaws in it (Lightning McQueen may be the worst protagonist in a PIXAR movie, save for Mater in Cars 2) but that second Cars movie really was the pits. Can Cars 3 turn things around for the franchise? I've got no clue but that first teaser trailer brought an ominous atmosphere that was unexpected at least.

My Thoughts On The Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer

OK folks, this is another trailer post where I won't be babbling for long. Let's get to the trailer we've all been waiting for for so long......the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi!



Well now, if that don't look dandy!

This is very much a teaser trailer, akin to that very first teaser we got for The Force Awakens all the way back in November 2014 (remember when we were all so hungry for that footage? My how time flies....) in that it basically gives us some establishing shots of the new characters and two classic figures (Leia and Luke). No footage that I could see of newbie characters like Rose (the most prominent new character, a technician played by Kelly Marie Tran) or the other new figures played by Benicio Del Toro or Laura Dern. That's fine by me though; we've got eight months to go until the movie's release, don't spoil everything for me!

What footage we do get looks quite memorable (those ships flying over the desert with their red gas is especially noteworthy) and that final line from Luke Skywalker do seem to indicate (combined with Daisy Ridley mentioning at a Star Wars Celebration panel today that "sometimes your heroes don't live up to your expectations") that Luke is gonna be a complex figure in this movie, which sounds super intriguing to me. Consider me plenty hyped for this one and eager to see more from Rian Johnson's foray into the Star Wars universe!

Oh yeah, and that poster is AMAZING!

The Next Thor Movie Has Its First Brilliant Trailer

The Thor movies are definitely the sore spot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that isn't Iron Fist or Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. I like the first movie well enough and think the second one has its moments (most of them all coming from Tom Hiddleston) despite some heavily flawed storytelling. But this upcoming third Thor movie, Thor: Ragnarok, has had everyone eagerly anticipating for it one big reason: Taika Waititi. The man behind What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt For The Wilderpeople is taking the director's chair. How can you not get excited for that???

Well, prepare to have your anticipation skyrocket further as the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok actually just drop, almost out of nowhere. Take a look below!

My Mixed Thoughts On The Justice League Trailer

No need for a preamble here folks. My negative feelings towards Batman v. Superman are well-known at this point, we all know a Justice League movie is headed our way, let's just dig into the first trailer proper.

A Key Component Of My Childhood Comes To Life In The First Trailer For The Captain Underpants Movie

I was a huge reader when I was a kid but few books left as great of an impression on me as Dav Pilkey's Captain Underpants books. I read all of the books in that series too many times to count, their gross-out humor making youngsters like myself feel like we were getting away with something inappropriate whilst actually doing some reading. Lord knows I haven't read one of those books in eons (they're still going right? I remember the last one I read as a kid ended on a major cliffhanger that I think only got resolved a few years back), but it's no shocker to me that the books are still relevant enough with today's youngsters to warrant a theatrical movie, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie Trailer Has Some Serious Daddy Issues

Considering how franchise crazy Warner Bros. is these days, you'd have to be crazy to think they were only gonna follow-up their smash hit feature The LEGO Movie with only one or two direct sequels. They're going spin-off crazy with this one, with this Friday bringing The LEGO Batman Movie and this September unleashing the LEGO Ninjago Movie on the populace. Now, I'm completely unfamiliar with the LEGO Ninjago franchises history beyond knowing that it was a TV show on Cartoon Network and also knowing that my younger brother was obsessed with it for a brief period. It appears the movie version of that property is giving itself its own mythology, so check out the first trailer for it below to get a first glimpse of this new take on the Ninja LEGO characters.

The Jetsons and WWE Are About To Meet In An Actual Movie That Is Happening This Year

Since the Boomerang channel and its wall-to-wall Hanna-Barbera programming was a cornerstone of my youth, I know a thing or two about Hanna-Barbera cartoons, from the well-known stuff to more obscure creations like Grape Ape, Squiddily Diddily and Ricochet Rabbit. One such program I always used to fancy, and one my Mom had nostalgic childhood memories of her own watching, was The Jetsons, a show about a standard family living in the future, the polar opposite of fellow Hanna-Barbera creation The Flintstones if you will.

Beauty And The Beast Trailer Is Angling For Your Millennial Nostalgia

The next in Disney's long line of upcoming live-action adaptations of their animated movies (which somehow does not include a Home On The Range remake from director Peter Strickland) is Beauty And The Beast, which already had the most watched trailer of all-time this past summer and is now looking to translate the popularity of its trailer into box office success. That shouldn't be a problem at all (seriously, this thing's gonna be a box office...beast!), but will it actually be a good movie? Pete's Dragon and The Jungle Book suggest these live-action Disney remakes are on the upswing quality-wise but the likes of Maleficent and Alice In Wonderland still linger in one's mind. Well, there's a new trailer for Beauty & The Beast that looks to give prospective moviegoers a better glimpse as to what's to come.

Prepare For Glorious Battle With The New Trailer For Wonder Woman!!

So...look, it's been a bit of a rough year for DC, let's not beat around the bush. Neither of their live-action films were quite the box office bonanzas (read: billion-dollar hits) they were hoping for, both Suicide Squad and especially Batman v. Superman were critically savaged and even that Killing Joke movie became a punchline thanks to a Comic-Con panel gone horribly awry and that Batman/Batgirl romantic subplot. Luckily, the future holds some hopeful properties such as a new animated Justice League TV show that looks like a lot of fun and next year's Wonder Woman movie, which just dropped a new trailer that you can watch directly below!

The First Teaser Trailer For Logan Makes Hugh Jackman's Last Wolverine Movie Look Very Different And Emotional

The final X-Men movie to feature Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is on its way for March. It's got a title (Logan, a nice little contrast with the title of the last solo Wolverine movie The Wolverine), a cast that includes Patrick Stewart, Stephen Merchant and Boyd Holbrook and now it's got a teaser trailer. Check it out below and prepare to see something very different from past X-Men movies and American blockbusters in general.

A New Rogue One Trailer Has Mads Mikkelsen And Ben Mendelsohn Meeting And There's Also Some Star Wars Stuff

There's one movie coming out in December everyone around the world has been looking forward to for years now, especially given how the director of said movie recently directed a Warner Bros. summer blockbuster that debuted in May and was a major box office hit. This film revealed a trailer this past Spring and since then anticipation has mounted and mounted and such eagerness will likely only increase in the future. This movie is called Incarnate and is about Aaron Eckhart using Inception technology to fight a demon in a young boy's mind. Also coming out in December is something called Rogue One, which released a new trailer today you can watch below.

A New Trolls Trailer Brings On The Justin Timberlake Tune (You Know Which One) And Fecal Cupcakes

DreamWorks Animation next big bid to get a new franchise going (following non-starters like Rise Of The Guardians, Turbo, Mr. Peabody & Sherman & Penguins Of Madagascar) is Trolls, a movie adaptation of those Troll dolls that have been big toy business for nearly 60 years now. In terms of toy to movie adaptations, DreamWorks obviously hopes this one will be more on the order of The LEGO Movie than Battleship. Well, there's a new trailer out now for you to watch and get a better look at the world Trolls has concocted for its tiny fantasy critters to inhabit.

The New Trailer For Ben-Hur "Bens" Over Backwards To Appeal To Christian Moviegoers

Cinema strictly revolving around Christian themes had existed for decades prior to 2014 (just ask the likes of Reverent Herbert Jump and the various directors who worked for World Wide Pictures), they became a big business in modern day Hollywood when God's Not Dead, Noah and Heaven Is For Real made big bucks in quick succession. As both a Christian and cinema devotee, I wish more of the movies made in the wake of such financial success to more cues from one of 2014's most underrated features, Noah, by sparing no expense on interesting characters, darker themes and glorious production values.

The First Trailer For The Next Walt Disney Animation Studios Movie, Moana, Has Hit The Shores!

Ron Clements And John Musker are two of the most prolific figures in the history of Disney Animation thanks to their directorial credits on (deep breath) The Great Mouse Detective, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet and The Princess And The Frog. Yeah, this duo has one helluva track record and their newest directorial effort, Moana, arrives this Thanksgiving. The first trailer for Moana has hit the interwebs and you can watch it below!

Slime Yourself With The New Ghostbusters Trailer

So far, the marketing effort for this summer's remake/reboot of Ghostbusters has been met with mixed responses. Some positive, some thoughtful criticisms and a tidal wave of misogyny on online forums, comment sections and Tweets across the interwebs. Hell, yesterday a dude named Angry Video Game Nerd proclaimed he would be refusing to see the movie, which launched a whole new sector of discussion, eventually spawning this well-written piece over at Birth.Movies.Death about the sexism underlying the fervent hatred for a movie that isn't even out.

Anywho, this morning the newest trailer for this project launched and, while it likely won't quell any cry-baby MRA's ranting that this movie will "ruin their childhood" (how sad and pathetic must your childhood have been if one movie can ruin it?), it does give the rest of us a better look at the movie itself.

Personally, the trailer strikes me as decent but hampered by some wonky editing and a lack of focus. Not only is the whole "Chris Hemsworth gets possessed" feel like too much of a spoiler, but it comes out of nowhere since he isn't properly established prior to that sequence in the trailer. On the other hand, there are tons of lovely looking ghosts in this trailer, the bright colors and variety of shapes and sizes these spectres come in in both of these trailers is quite a sight to see.

Meanwhile, the action actually looks pretty great and there's a few gags (like Leslie Jones with a demon on her shoulder and her remark after not being carried by a crowd of concertgoers) that got a solid laugh out of me. There are some blatant foibles to be found in this trailer, to be sure, but what's good here does give me hope that Paul Feig and his cast & crew can pull this off come July 15th. We shall see in just under two months.

New Trailer For Suicide Squad Begs The Question...Whose The Real Criminal? Us? Or The Man Gobbling Crocodile Monster?

Last night, DC Comics aired a TV special designed to promote their forthcoming films in the DC Extended Universe, a sprawling cavalcade of films starring spandex wearing individuals that's basically Warner Bros. answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Along with new footage of Batman v. Superman and a sneak peek at Wonder Woman (the latter of which has some surprisingly polished looking footage considering its only been filming for two months), there was a new trailer for Suicide Squad, the David Ayer directed feature about various incarcerated bad guys from DC Comics lore being recruited for a dangerous government mission.

Let's time travel back to the year 2007, when an eleven year old NerdInTheBasement saw Transformers on its second day of release. My first theatrical PG-13 experience, I got a thrilling rush when, prior to the screening, the trailer for the R-rated Superbad played. Woah! An R-rated movie! What a time to be alive! Sure, it was the green-band trailer and so no nudity, drug use or explicit swearing was to be found, but still, it was the trailer for what was pretty blatantly an R-rated feature film. Could it get any better than this??

Spielberg Goes Big Instead Of Going Home In The First Trailer For The BFG

I've been super curious to see what trailers Disney attaches to screenings of a small indie movie of theirs coming out next week called Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Captain America: Civil War is a given, but anything else? Typically, studios get to put two trailers for their upcoming features in the coming attractions of their movies, but I wouldn't be shocked if this tradition got bucked for a massive film like The Force Awakens a Disney got to three trailers on this new sci-fi adventure (hell, 20th Century Fox got to put trailers for three of their upcoming films on my screening of Victor Frankenstein just this past Saturday). So theoretically, what two other 2016 Disney movies would they choose to promote?
