Five Actresses Who Would Be Great Choices To Play Captain Marvel

A large number of new superheroes will be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the next years, and interestingly, most of them have already been cast. Benedict Cumberbatch will play Doctor Strange, Chadwick Boseman will bring Black Panther to life and Tom Holland will be the MCU version of Spider-Man. But one notable hero is left to cast; Captain Marvel. This character has been one that many have been clamoring for to receive a motion picture, and with such a film arriving in 2018, I thought it might be interesting to look at five actresses who would do the character justice!

Emily Blunt
Everyone and their Grandmother has been fancasting Emily Blunt for this role for ages now, but there's a good reason for that. Not only is she a great actress, but Edge of Tomorrow proved that Blunt is more than capable of being a bad-ass action hero. Hell, Blunt herself has expressed interest in the part, so hopefully her becoming Captain Marvel is an inevitability rather than just a fantasy.
Charlize Theron
Here's another actress typically known for dramatic fare who just proved her action film chops, with Theron stealing the show and then some in Mad Max: Fury Road. Plus, her experiences on Arrested Development as Rita prove she can land and ace a joke if the scene calls for it. If she brings half the presence to Captain Marvel that she brought to past memorable roles, then we'd all be in for a treat.
Jamie Chung
Chung already has an in with Marvel, since she has an extensive experience with Disney working on Once Upon A Time and Big Hero 6. Plus, she's the sort of talented actor whose on the cusp of breaking out (similar to Chris Pratt prior to Guardians of The Galaxy) who just needs that one part to take her career to the next level. Could Captain Marvel be that part? We'd all be lucky as hell if it was!
Amanda Seyfried
I mentioned in my review of Ted 2 that Seyfried deserves way better work than she's gotten, and headlining a Captain Marvel movie would be the perfect avenue for her talents to be utilized. Les Miserables solidified her acting capabilities, and she's managed to be so charming in the majority of her work that I get giddy at the idea of her bouncing off other Avengers like Iron Man and Captain America.
Elizabeth Banks
Similar to Seyfried, Elizabeth Banks has been heavily underserved by Hollywood, with only the occasional feature like The LEGO Movie and Love & Mercy offering anything of substance for her to do. What a shame, as she's an extremely talented actor who would ace Carol Danvers in her various cosmic conquests, and if the way she's handled the character of development of Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games movies is any indication, Banks could even bring new layers to Danvers in future Avengers and solo Captain Marvel films. Plus, if Banks gets to star in the movie, there's a good chance Marvel can also hire her to direct the motion picture.
