That Popular Wicked Musical Is Finally Getting A Movie Adaptation And Even Has A Far Off Release Date

We as human beings always grapple with the future. It comes toward us like a ceaseless thundercloud full of worries. Will our future be full of medical problems we cannot escape? Can we grapple with the time when our loved ones begin to vanish from this Earth at a substantially increased pace? And now a new query about our uncertain future can hover all of our collective heads for a good four years; will that Wicked movie be good or even end up getting made?

Steven Spielberg is not a man known for having a light workload. Remember how, back in 1997 and 1998, he had three directorial efforts (The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Amistad, Saving Private Ryan) released in the span of 13 months?  Oh he'll take prolonged breaks occasionally but whenever he comes back he's always got multiple films up his sleeve. It looks like he's on one helluva roll right now, as, hot off the heels after releasing Bridge Of Spies last Fall (which you should see ASAP if you haven't yet, it's great), he's got The BFG lined up for this summer, Ready Player One set for March 2018 and he'll also be handling a fifth Indiana Jones feature in July 2019.

DreamWorks SKG To Leave Disney And Finally Reunite With Universal?

One of my all-time favorite books centering around Hollywood is The Men Who Would Be King by Nicole LaPorte, a fascinating look at the highs and lows of DreamWorks SKG, a movie studio created by David Geffen, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg in 1994. The saga of that studio looks to be continuing today, as The Hollywood Reporter notes that DreamWorks is likely looking to bail on their current distribution deal with Disney and go over to Universal.

It might seem peculiar, given Hollywoods current fascination with live-action adaptations of classic fairy tales (see: Cinderella, Alice In Wonderland, Malfeicent and the forthcoming Pan and The Jungle Book) that The Little Mermaid gotten a modern day take yet. However, trying to merge live-action actors with the underwater environments that much of the story takes place in would be a tricky proposition. Not an impossible one though, which is why a new film based on Hans Christian Andersons tale has been in development for a while.

Aaron Sorkin Written Steve Jobs Movie Loses Home At Sony, But All Hope Is Not Lost

It's been a rough road for the Steve Jobs biopic written by Aaron Sorkin. David Fincher was supposed to direct it, make it a nice Social Network reunion, but he passed. Then, Danny Boyle came on as director, only for lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio to pass. Christian Bale, who had been floated around as a lead for the project when Fincher was directing, reattached himself to the project, and then left it. Michael Fassbender was in talks to play the lead of Steve Jobs, while Seth Rogen, Jessica Chastain and Scarlett Johnansson were in discussions for roles in the feature.
