Illumination Pencils In Dates For Minions And Sing Sequels Because $$$$$$$$$$$

Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind such entities as The Fart Gun and a psychedelic sausage sequence,  has announced some new release dates for their upcoming movies. The Secret Life Of Pets, previously scheduled for July 13, 2018 will now come out on July 3, 2019, the same release date that Despicable Me 2 opened on in 2013 to massive success. It seemed odd that the studio was planning to get a major animated sequel out just two years after the first Pets movie given that typical animated sequels take three years to make.

Wreck-It Ralph 2 Has An Official Release Date!

Well, the release slate for Walt Disney Animation Studios got an update today, as director Rich Moore and actor John C. Reily announced that Wreck-It Ralph 2 is arriving March 9, 2018! An image released to commemorate the occasion, showing Ralph and Vanellope looming over buildings with names obviously parodying the likes of Amazon and Google suggest that the forthcoming follow-up will take Ralph and his pals to the internet and perhaps even modern day gaming. I personally loved Wreck-It Ralph, it's got a great script, a terrific vocal performance from Reily and its world seems perfectly suited for new adventures. So yeah, I'm jacked for more Wreck-It Ralph movies!

There Are Four Avatar Sequels Coming, You Cannot Escape Them

Y'know what movie I like? Avatar. It's nowhere near a perfect movie (then again, what is?), but James Cameron certainly knows how to weave a visually pleasing world. There's also an earnest spirit to the film (it's less obsessed with being "dark" or "gritty" than it is embracing all the fun that comes with having your own space dragon to fly around) and Stephen Lang's General Quaritch is the perfect kind of over-the-top bad guy that this kind of movie needs. Yeah, all in all, a super enjoyable movie, totally easy to see why audiences got so enamored with it, especially since it was one of the first films to take full advantage of the positive aspects of Digital 3D and especially IMAX 3D.

For Their Sake, Movie Studios Need To Start Releasing Their Dramas Outside Of October

It's no shocker why movie studios love the month of October as the opportune time to release their major dramatic motion pictures. Tons of films of that very nature have done gangbusters business in this time period (just in the last few years, Gone Girl, The Social Network and Argo excelled here), and these dramas can play as more low-key counterprogramming towards the larger scale releases in November. Plus, it ensures that a number of these films will, in theory, be easier for Oscar voters to remember when it comes time for those voters to figure out who should be nominated for Best Picture. But as this October has shown, unleashing an onslaught of dramas on the marketplace just leads to everyone underperforming.

The two live-action Scooby-Doo films always confused me as a kid for a number of reasons; for one thing, as a young animation and Hanna-Barbara buff, I was always curious why Frank Welker couldn't come back to voice the titular pooch. My most anticipated movie of 2015, no contest, was Richard Linklaters That's What I'm Talking About, his newest feature after making my favorite movie of 2014, Boyhood.
