Some Thoughts On Benedict Cumberbatch As Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange, as depicted in the comics
Speculation over who would be playing Marvels Supreme Sorcerer has been running rampant for years. For a two month period starting around this years Comic-Con, Joaquin Phoenix was in heavy discussions for the role that went nowhere. Tons of actors were rumored for the role during the month, including Tom Hardy, Adrien Brody and Collin Farrell. One name that had come up numerous times, even during a Q&A session at Comic-Con with the actor, was Benedict Cumberbatch, who seems to the be the one who Marvel will get to play Doctor Strange.

I should reiterate that this isn't quote unquote official yet, Marvel hasn't commented on this matter to my knowledge, but it does look like it's really happening, we're finally gonna get a live-action Doctor Strange. And what a great guy to play him! Most of the rumored names for this role, especially Phoenix, I liked (except for one of my favorite actors, Hardy, who I just couldn't see in this particular role), so this was pretty much a win-win for me with whoever they went with.

But I do like that Cumberbatch has the role. The dudes a talented actor, bringing menace to the role of Kahn, ominous sophistication to Smaug and earning rave reviews for his lead role in the forthcoming drama The Imitation Game. He actually kinda looks like Doctor Strange from the comics, and he should be able to bring in the pathos of remorse that reside in the character. Can't wait to see if (or should I say when) this deal goes official, and to see Cumberbatch in the superheroes iconic costume!
