Alpha's Doggone Best Elements Are Also Its Most Original Tendencies

Stories about a boy and his dog (or some kind of other creature standing in for the dog) are a dime-a-dozen in the wide world of cinema, but Alpha looks to set itself apart from the pack by telling the story that explores the very first time man and canine bonded. Such a tale occurs during the ice age thousands of years ago as Keda (Kodi Smit-McPhee) travels with various members of his tribe, including his father, chief Tau (Johannes Haukur Johannesson), to hunt buffalo. It's an important mission for a number of reasons, including the fact that Keda see's this as a potential rite of passage of sorts that can prove to his father that he has what it takes to be a proper chief.

Hunger Games And Krampus Prevail On Post-Thanksgiving Box Office Weekend

Movie studios typically use this post-Thanksgiving weekend as a dumping ground of sorts, with such critically acclaimed films like The Warrior's Way and Awake being released at this time of the year. But for the first time in a decade (when the 2005 feature Aeon Flux debuted, to be precise), a movie opened to over $10 million in this post-Thanksgiving slot. That film? Krampus. We'll get deeper into that one in a moment though, as first we must set our sights on this weeks box office champion, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part Two. For the third week in a row, Katniss Everdeen ruled the roost, taking in another $18.6 million, which is a 64% dip from last weekend, and bringing its domestic cume to $227.1 million. That 64% drop is about the same as the 65% third weekend decline of Catching Fire. At it's current rate, the final Hunger Games feature will likely close out with about $265-270 million.

The Good Dinosaur Review

One of the reoccurring storytelling templates that have cropped up in the filmography of PIXAR Animation Studios (and it's such a basic template for storytelling that its reappearance amongst the studios output feels less like repetition and more like an inevitability) is to apply human characteristics to distinctly non-human entities. This trait can even be seen in the pre-PIXAR feature The Brave Little Toaster (incidentally, that's the movie that inspired my life-long fear of clowns), which employed future PIXAR alumni John Lasseter and Joe Ranft (the latter was a screenwriter on the project) as crucial members of its crew.

If 20th Century Fox tends to advertise their family films in a hyperactive manner that tries to toss in as many references to modern pop culture as possible (the perfect proof of this is the placement of DJ Khaled's All I Do Is Win in the trailer for a freaking Charlie Brown movie), it seems Disney has decided to market the animated features from Walt Disney Animation Studios and PIXAR in a manner that allows them to embrace the fact that a number of the films from both studios are known to generate "feels". Notice how the trailers for Big Hero 6 and Inside Out had action and humor a-plenty, but also didn't shy away from displaying the more heart-tugging moments of the proceedings.

PIXAR just had one of the biggest hits of their career with Inside Out and surely they're hoping that their next film, The Good Dinosaur, replicates that success. They put out a teaser trailer for the motion picture last month and now a new trailer, chock full of footage, gives a better look at the film and its world.

Well now, ain't this an interesting development. A lot of news has surfaced recently regarding The Good Dinosaur, an ultra-secret project from PIXAR that's had numerous production difficulties. Still, those sort of incidents can be par for the course when it comes to PIXARs movies, which tend to have numerous production stops and starts until the final product arrives. Thanks to a new teaser trailer,  the film is on a lot of peoples radars now, and the newest development the film has undergone should further discussion of the feature.

T-Rex's Run Rampant In First New Images From PIXAR's 2015 Film The Good Dinosaur

After a production that had, like with many films, animated or otherwise, its share of problems, PIXAR's Thanksgiving 2015 movie, The Good Dinosaur, seems to be finally coming together. Footage from the movie was screened at the Cannes Film Festival recently, and response to it was extremely positive. And now, some new promo images (which are poses of the characters used for toys and other pieces of merchandise) for the movie have come online via the PIXAR Wiki!

What 2015 Movies Could Hit $200 Million? (Part Two)

With The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water waaaaaay overperforming with a $55 million opening weekend, it looks like that undersea fella could hit $200 million in it's final gross, becoming the first movie of 2015 to accomplish that task. That got me thinking about what other films could hit that mark at the domestic box office, and I've compiled part two (part one can be found here) of a list of 15 movies that are likely to hit that mark, as well as a notice on the individual likelihood of each movies chances at hitting that prestigious $200 million mark.
