Brightburn Fizzles Out Before It Can Reach Its Fullest Potential

Over in Brightburn, Kansas, life is relatively peaceful enough. Kids go to school, parents go to work and Brandon Breyer (Jackson A. Dunn), son of Tori (Elizabeth Banks) and Kyle (David Denman), is a seemingly normal Middle Schooler. Except, well, he's not normal. Now, really, nobody is "normal", but Brandon is especially abnormal. His parents have concealed his true origins, which tie into his superhuman strength as well as why he's so attracted to some strange machine located in the Breyer family barn. Realizing he's far more powerful than he ever imagined, Breyer begins to revel in his powers by committing a series of murders around his hometown, which won't remain peaceful for very long now that Brandon A.K.A. Brightburn has come around.

The Dark Knight Rises Shows Why Christopher Nolan's Batman Movies Are So Beloved

I wouldn't say The Dark Knight Rises needs an apology for its general pop culture perception. Such a sentiment should be saved for a movie like Jennifer's Body that was hit by misogynistic reviews and toxic backlashes against its primary creative participants. Using that word for a movie like The Dark Knight Rises that got uniformly positive reviews from critics and made over $1 billion at the worldwide box office is ridiculous. That having been said, the films general reputation among the interwebs has been immensely negative, partially because the release of the movie coincided with a new rise in nitpicky YouTube channels like CinemaSins and Honest Trailers that ensured The Dark Knight Rises would be more known for background stuntmen gone awry than anything related to its storytelling or filmmaking.

Neither Bird Nor Plane, Superman Is Just An Insanely Charming Movie

Us superhero movie geeks owe more than a bit to 1978's Richard Donner feature film Superman. Prior to this movie, superheroes had been relegated to forgotten TV movies, serials, a handful of Zorro movies and a single theatrical movie based on the 1960's Adam West Batman TV show. Though it would take another decade (with Tim Burton's Batman) before another non-Superman superhero movie would find similar success, this iteration of Superman had opened the door for other costumed characters to enter multiplexes across the world and tell their heroic tales in a larger-than-life visual medium.

Where Does The DC Extended Universe Go From Here?

Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice is a big fat hit. Grossing over $420 million worldwide in just a few days, this thing is easily headed to over a billion dollars worldwide and has fulfilled the faith Warner Bros. had in this franchise when they announce half-a-decades worth of movies based on various DC Comics characters back in October 2014. The DC Extended Universe, as it's being called, is here to stay. And, as someone who hated Batman v. Superman, I have some mixed feelings about this whole thing, to say the least.

Batman v. Superman Gets Off To Massive Box Office Start At Thursday Night Showings

Night (or should I say knight) has fallen on the box office as Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice got off to a massive $27.7 million start last night at Thursday night screenings that began at 6 PM. That's the second biggest gross for a superhero movie at these kind of screenings, only behind the $30 million sum garnered by The Dark Knight Rises at Midnight showings back in July 2012. This $27,7 million sum puts Batman v. Superman puts this Zack Snyder film ahead of The Avengers, Man Of Steel (which grossed $21 million at 7PM screenings, tickets to which could only be bought at Wal-Mart, and midnight showings) and Avengers: Age Of Ultron. It's also, just from these screenings alone, already the eighth highest grossing movie of Jesse Eisenberg's career.

She's a hero from Superman's human-resembling alien species who has similar powers (namely super strength and flying) to the Man Of Steel. There's been a massive hunt for the actress to play the hero, and now Melissa Benoist will be leading the program.

There's nothing more comforting than seeing certain things stay the same, especially considering how much in this world changes on a regular basis. Superman got under fire last year for the very uncharacteristic he took out his primary antagonist, and for good reason. That move betrayed all the character stood for and was not only a product of needlessly updating a beloved entity in order to be "hip", but was also a reminder of Man of Steels unending shoddy screenwriting.
