Warner Bros. Just Announced Release Dates For Nine DC Comics Movies As Well As Earlier Date For Batman/Superman Adventure

I'm more of a Marvel Comics kind of guy, especially when it comes to the world of film. I mean, compared to Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers, Green Lantern and Man of Steel look even more pathetic than they already are. And yet, DC has tons, and I mean tons of awesome accomplishments under their belts. Their animated programs run circles around Marvel garbage like The Ultimate Spider-Man, while they're responsible for some of the greatest graphic novels of all-time like Watchmen. Even in the world of film, them bringing us Christopher Nolans Dark Knight trilogy is an impressive feat.

Still, I've been hugely skeptical of their plan to create a DC Cinematic Universe (like the one Marvel has created), all stemming from Man of Steel. Steel was a terrible film that had no fun action, horribly developed characters and some laughably bad examples of storytelling, so trying to create a universe out of that feels like a poor idea. Still, not all the DC Cinematic Universe movies could be directed or written by the likes of Zack Snyder or David S. Goyer, so there's hope there. Even more hope is instilled today as Warner Bros. just announced 9 new release dates for DC Comics properties.

The biggest release date announcement has to be the one for Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Originally, Warner Bros. was gonna release that film in July 2015, but moved it up to May 6, 2016. There, it would face....Captain America 3, which had the date first. After several months of facing against each other, Warner Bros. smartly moved their Justice League prequel to March 25, 2016. The 9 newly announced release dates are:

August 5, 2016
June 23, 2017
November 17, 2017
March 23, 2018
July 27, 2018
April 5, 2019
June 14, 2019
April 3, 2020
June 19, 2020

Normally, I'm pessimistic on DC Comics movies, but honestly, I'm kind of pleased with this news. I'm happy to see them making some actual progress with their movies, but still not rushing into things (thank God the rumored "3-movies-a-year" plan didn't happen). Two a year feels manageable, especially due to the thing I love most about this news; the variety of release dates. Warner Bros. is angling for that early April date Captain America: The Winter Soldier used so effectively this year, which helps give a bit of breathing room between it and other big tentpole releases (I would also have taken advantage of that early February date that helped The LEGO Movie do so well, but whatever)

Plus, there's the hope that we could get some really good movies out of this. Like I said before ,Snyder can't direct all these movies, some other filmmakers will have to be hired to take over for these movies. The potential of seeing actually talented filmmakers handling the likes of Wonder Woman and The Flash is an extremely promising one to say the least. Can you imagine getting a great DC universe to go with the great Marvel Cinematic Universe and X-Men Universe we have right now? While Man of Steel doesn't inspire any confidence at all, I'll keep my spirits up that these new release dates signify that DC has some truly interesting things planned for it's characters in the future.

Although, man...isn't it insane that we have movies planned for the next decade now??? Crazy, crazy stuff.
