The Marvel Cinematic Universe has done a lot of things right, but man, it took 'em a while to get a handle on doing their second movies in individual franchises right. Their first one of these specific type of features, Iron Man 2, is still by far the weakest and most narratively messy MCU film while their next effort in this area was Thor: The Dark World, a heavily flawed fantasy movie with some elements of fun scattered throughout. Right after Thor: The Dark World, they finally got one of these movies right with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and continued that trend with the gonzo yet thoughtful Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Now, you may be pondering to yourself right now, is Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 more on the order of Iron Man 2 or Captain America 2?

A slow news day today (nobody wanted to compete for media attention with the Paul Blart 2 trailer coming out later today) doesn't mean there's nothing to talk about in the world of pop culture. The super duper buzzed drama Whiplash finally enters over 400 theaters this coming weekend, and CBS Films is now getting some distribution help from Lionsgate. Discovering that the feature more than lived up to my lofty expectations was extraordinary, and all the positive hype from everyone else that's seen it has been super exciting.

The photo above was posted on James Gunns Facebook on Friday, and man did it make my entire day. As someone on the Autism spectrum (Aspergers Syndrome to be exact), it just warmed my heart to see someone else on the spectrum finding inspiration in one of the many delightful characters from Guardians of The Galaxy. Seeing that movie again yesterday, I was once again amazed at just how all around excellent it is, and honestly found it to be even better than I remembered. As the crowd departed the auditorium after that delightful post-credits scene, I had a big grin on my face from the entire film, as well as realizing that two of the Guardians are perfect cinematic representations of people on the Autism spectrum.

Box Office Analysis: With Guardians Making So Much Money, How Will The Rest Of The Movies In August Do?

I've got so much articles around Guardians of The Galaxy and the Marvel Cinematic Universe planned for this week (including my ranking of all the Marvel post-credit scenes, which should go up tonight), I thought I'd focus on some other movies for this edition of Box Office Analysis. Specifically, I'm taking a look at the other movies coming out in August and how they'll fare at the box office. Of course, a movie as great as Guardians does deserve some sort of presence, so don't worry, those lovable ruffians will be around in this piece.

We've seen a lot of amazing adventures from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the interlocking film series that includes the Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Avengers films (it also includes the singular The Incredible Hulk). They've changed the face of cinema in recent years, with The Avengers encouraging every movie studio and their grandma to enter the business of creating franchises that constantly crossover into each other. The only one to emerge so far (though the Universal Monster movies are the next up to follow this tactic) was The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which ditched coherent storytelling in favor of setting up endless amounts of sequels.
