Rocko, Meet Ren & Stimpy! NickToons Movie From Napoleon Dynamite Director In The Works!

As a kid, when it came to youth friendly animated programming, I was always more of a Disney kid, with stuff like TaleSpin, DuckTales (a-wooo!) and Darkwing Duck being my bread & butter. Of course, I was acutely aware of the animated shows over on Nickelodeon, dubbed NickToons, but their more abrasive nature (and the fact that the voices on Rugrats always irritated me) rubbed me the wrong way at an early age. I will say though I do love Rocko's Modern Life, and of course, SpongeBob SquarePants, which arrived at the tail end of the 90's and the NickToons era.

I've been seeing this video all over the internet today, and as a massive fan of Ducktales (and most of the other Disney Afternoon cartoons for that matter), I loved it. But I told myself I wouldn't post it on this blog, I wouldn't, I wouldn't, I'd go against the flow, I wouldn't join the in-crowd. However, more than a couple rewatches later, I can't help it. Here it is folks, the Ducktales theme song, this time reenacted with real ducks.

Garth Brooks Returns to Country Music With A Middling New Song

I'd heard that Garth Brooks had a new song out earlier in the week, and like any sane human being, became overwhelmed by anticipation. Whenever I heard it was about to be played on my radio this morning, I nearly lost my mind. Who wasn't eagerly awaiting the first new tune from the legendary singer who took the artform of country music to the next level in the 90's? Friends In Low Places, Unanswered Prayers, Two Pina Coladas....the list of great songs he brought to life goes on and on. His newest piece of music, People Loving People, is a strong departure from those past songs, in that it's just not that good.

Box Office Analysis: Nostalgia Is More Powerful Than Any Weapon

This morning was a whirlwind of questions and wondering. It seems everybody wanted to know just how Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had managed to hit $65.5 million in its own opening weekend. Many internet commentors proclaimed it to be the end of cinema as we know it. I've kind of been desensitized to such hyperbolic announcements, and frankly, I believe the success of this new Ninja Turtles incarnation is more of a testament to the power of nostalgia than anything else.

Four months back, me and a bunch of friends sat down to rewatch a movie that we knew had shaped not only our own cinema sensibilities, but pretty much our entire generation. Was it the only movie to do this? Of course not. But a movie where Michael Jordan faces off against a Danny DeVito voiced alien is likely to remain one of the more memorable features to have that kind of impact. We popped in the VHS, and it started.

I haven't seen Tom Cruises latest action movie, Edge of Tomorrow, yet (hopefully I'll catch it tonight so I can have a review up tomorrow). However, I do know plenty about it's production history, including the notable fact that it went under the title All You Need Is Kill for a long period of time until it was switched to its more generic current name. In a recent interview, I believe it was one of the producers who explained that the change was because of the sensitive atmosphere nowadays to violence.
