Peter Jackson and Company Do A Remarkable Job Restoring World War I Footage In They Shall Not Grow Old

I've been saying for a while now that it would be a dream come true to have director Peter Jackson's first post-Hobbit directorial gig be a motion picture in the vein of his earliest grindhouse works, most notably Meet the Feebles, something demented, warped and low-budget. Wouldn't it be great to see that side of Jackson again after so many years of only seeing him use his filmmaking skills on big-budget productions? Well, it turns out his actual first directorial effort after those Hobbit movies is something far removed from the likes of Meet the Feebles but that's not at all a bad thing. On the contrary, They Shall Not Grow Old feels like a return to form for Jackson as he uses groundbreaking VFX in the service of human beings and not the other way around for the first time in ages.

Eight Months After It Concluded, The Hobbit Trilogy Is A Rollercoaster (Or Barrell) Ride of Varying Levels of Quality

 As hard as it may be to believe, in about five days time, it'll officially have been eight months since that trilogy of Hobbit movies came to an end. Yet, even with it, y'know, ending and all, news of the franchise still lurks about, with a recent development confirming that an extended cut of the final film in the series, The Battle of The Five Armies, would be rated R. That seemed like a peculiar decision to me, but then again, The Hobbit trilogy hasn't been the kind of cinematic creation that adhered to the rules or expectations people set for them. In some ways, that's a virtue, and in other very blatant ways, it's certainly a foible for the massive three-film long endeavor.

Stephen Colbert Interviews Smaug The Dragon, And Yes, It's Incredible (From The Interwebs)

Stephen Colbert's final episode as the host of The Colbert Report (before he takes over for David Letterman in 2015) airs next week, but luckily his final episode will air just in time so he can still celebrate the release of the final Hobbit movie. As a man who happily announces his love for the world of Middle-Earth, Colbert celebrated the movies release last night by having none other then Smaug the dragon as a guest on his show. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One Review

Mock (Yeah)...Ing (Yeah)....Jay (Yeah)

Cliffhangers are a tricky business. Do it one way, and it can become an entertaining way to simultaneously push the characters forward while giving a glimpse at the future (see: The Empire Strikes Back and The Hobbit films). But others really just do it in an abrupt fashion that manages to decrease the overall quality of the film. Thankfully, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One manages to avoid being a calamity. In fact, it's an entertaining movie filled with tension packed sequences.

Middle-Earths Fate Is In The Balance In Epic New Trailer For Final Hobbit Movie

Alright, I'm gonna say it. At the risk of alienating myself from the rest of the internet....I like The Hobbit movies. Yeah, they have a tendency to be overlong, and some of the CGI (namely those Orcs) is embarrassingly bad. But Middle-Earth is quite a wonderful place to spend two and a half hours, and actors like Martin Freeman and Ian McKellen really help make it come to life. The final entry in The Hobbit Trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies has gotten a trailer before it's Christmastime launch, check it out below!

The Final Hobbit Movie Gets A Beautiful Trailer

I've actually really enjoyed these Hobbit movies. The first one's overlong, but there's still tons of great creatures and fun sequences to counter that. The second one though was truly fantastic, especially thanks to Smaug the dragon and some well done character moments. I've been eager for the third movie, and this trailer only heightens that feeling. Check it out below.

I haven't seen Tom Cruises latest action movie, Edge of Tomorrow, yet (hopefully I'll catch it tonight so I can have a review up tomorrow). However, I do know plenty about it's production history, including the notable fact that it went under the title All You Need Is Kill for a long period of time until it was switched to its more generic current name. In a recent interview, I believe it was one of the producers who explained that the change was because of the sensitive atmosphere nowadays to violence.
