More Jack Sparrow, Sinister Six And Spider-Man Adventures Have Release Dates

Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides made over $1 billion dollars worldwide, easily making it a profitable venture, while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 crossed $700 million back in May. Normally, that would make those two smash hits, the kind of movies every studio in town would want. But there was a problem; both hit domestic box office and critical lows for their respective franchises.

So now you have a problem; you've not only hit a low in revenue in America, but you're also stuck with a movie that wasn't really beloved, so it's doubtful people are gonna come back for another entry. Disney has really been struggling in coming up with what the hell to actually do with the Pirates of The Caribbean movies, since they don't really need a big "PG-13 action franchise" like they used to now that Star Wars and the Marvle Cinematic Universe are making big bucks for the Mouse House. Meanwhile Sony has been trying to figure out how to keep the Spider-Man train going strong, since they don't have a ton of franchises to fall back on.

So Disney finally gave the new Pirates movie a release date, and Sony has just done a little date shifting for the next Spider-Man adventure. Disney will unleash the next Jack Sparrow voyage on July 7, 2017, which would make a six year gap between the fourth and fifth Pirates adventure. Even more interesting though is Sony's plan for your neighborhood friendly Spider-Man. Last year, Sony set two dates in 2016 and 2018 (June 10 and May 2 respectively) for future Spider-Man adventures dubbed The Amazing Spider-Man 3 (for 2016) and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 (2018).

Well, there won't be a Spider-Man film in June 2016, but that doesn't mean the year will be completely deprived of Spider-Man cash-grabs, er, sequels. November 11, 2016 is when the next Spider-Man adventure will arrive, which will interestingly not revolve around Spidey at all. Nope, November 11 is when the Sinister Six movie, directed by Drew Goddard (who previously helmed The Cabin In The Woods) will be released, while The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will now be released on May 2, 2018.

I really have no idea where the next Pirates movie could go, but I'm sure it'll be profitable in some way. Meanwhile, I'm not sure why Sony doesn't just sell Spider-Man back to Disney/Marvel for a hefty sum instead of trying to build off of the mess that was The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Ah well, at least Goddard is coming onboard, though considering the rumors of how creatively stifled director Marc Webb was on the first two Amazing Spider-Man movies, I worry how this movie will turn out. We shall see come 2016.
