The Defenders Is Way More Tedious Than It Should Be. At Least Jessica Jones Is Around.

And so we come to the culmination of that original pact Marvel Television made with Netflix, the one that stated Marvel's TV arm would provide the streaming service with 13-episode long seasons of four different superhero shows and then all of those individual superheroes would meet up in an 8-episode long miniseries The Defenders (the original plan has now expanded to accommodate additional seasons of each of the shows as well as a Punisher spin-off). That original plan got off to a great start with the first seasons of Daredevil and especially Jessica Jones, but since then the Marvel/Netflix stuff has been heavily flawed in quality (at best) and The Defenders continues the more middle-of-the-road artistic trajectory of the recent fare created by this collaboration.

Over in the state of Georgia, there is a "religious liberty bill" that will allow businesses to discriminate against same-sex couples. How far has this bill gotten? Well, the only thing preventing it from being enacted currently is the approval of Governor Nathan Deal. Numerous figures have already showed resistance to such a law coming to fruition, for obvious reasons, including the NFL (who are noting that such a law being passed could put Georgia out of the running for being a state to host the Super Bowl) and now, another big company has thrown their support behind dismissing the bill.

New Ant-Man Trailers Brings The Gags, The Ants And The Trains...Er, Pain

With Age of Ultron on the horizon (only 18 days to go!), Marvel is now turning it's attention to their next big budget blockbuster: Ant-Man. The only promotional material we've seen from the movie are some cool looking images, a funny poster and a decent, if overly serious, teaser. LEGO Jurassic Park Trailer Adds Humor To The Dino-centric Franchise

LEGO video games are about to celebrate an entire decade of prosperity and success, as it was back in 2005 that the first video game to take an existing property and bring it to life via LEGO's (that first game, by the by, was LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game). This approach has been done to massively popular pop culture entities such as Harry Potter, Marvel superheroes and Indiana Jones, but in honor of the release of this summers new movie Jurassic World, the Jurassic Park franchise will be the next to get a LEGO video game. Where The Star Trek Franchise Should Go Next

A while back, I wrote an article about shared universes, in which I noted a bunch of proposed shared cinematic universes (such as one commissioned by Sony revolving around Robin Hood) made me weary of the craze and hoping lackluster shared universes would die out. But notice that I mention lackluster; shared universes aren't bad inherently, and as Marvel and Star Wars have shown, can bring in untold possibilities from a storytelling perspective. Frankly, I felt like I should have emphasized that more in my original editorial, as I didn't want to come off as dismissive of an entire form of storytelling (when the usually incredible website The Dissolve did a surprisingly snooty takedown of cinematic universes, it burned my cinders, I just didn't want to make that same mistake).

Big Hero 6 Review

A Heroic Achievement

As one of the biggest Disney animation nerds on the planet (my first word on this planet was Disney actually...I was doomed to this life from the start!), a new feature from the newly revitalized animation studio always gets me excited. Trailers for Big Hero 6 looked terrific, but I was worried, simply due to there being so few movies from the studio that were like this one. Heavy on action (the last time the studio tried that, *hooray!* Treasure Planet, though before that we got *shudder* Atlantis), based on an obscure Marvel character and a potential trainwreck of a lead character...these are the elements that filled me with worry as the movie approached.

Speculation over who would be playing Marvels Supreme Sorcerer has been running rampant for years. For a two month period starting around this years Comic-Con, Joaquin Phoenix was in heavy discussions for the role that went nowhere. Tons of actors were rumored for the role during the month, including Tom Hardy, Adrien Brody and Collin Farrell. One name that had come up numerous times, even during a Q&A session at Comic-Con with the actor, was Benedict Cumberbatch, who seems to the be the one who Marvel will get to play Doctor Strange.

Final Trailer For Big Hero 6 Is Full of Laughs, Actions And Emotion

One thing that I think is a major factor in Walt Disney Animation Studios resurgence is the much more effective marketing used for their features starting with Tangled. Starting with that 2010 film, trailers for the studios films were extremely memorable and also very well-made. The short trailer for Frozen last summer that simply showed Sven and Olaf engaging in shenanigans was despised by many on the interwebs, but I myself found it more than amusing and any time it played at a movie theater, that thing just went over like gangbusters.

Ant-Man Cast Grows With Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale and Tony Starks Dad

My unwarranted earlier reaction to Peyton Reed being chosen as the director of Ant-Man feels hideously narrow-minded in retrospect. The dude not only has a lot more beloved works under his belt than a forgettable Jim Carry vehicle, and I'm super sorry for saying such poor words way back when. I'm way more confident in the film now, thanks not only to the phenomenal artistic success of Marvel Studios recent movie Guardians, but also Reeds hideous treatment by fans on the internet and at Comic-Con. The movie starts filming today, and already has dynamite cast that includes Paul Rudd playing Scott Lang, who is the titular superhero, Michael Douglas as his mentor, Evangeline Lilly as the mentors daughter, Corey Stall as the anatgonist and Michael Pena.
