2016 Oscar Nominees Predictions!

The nominees for this years Oscar ceremony get announced tomorrow morning, so le'ts have a little bit of fun this morning and look at my predictions for who gets into what category this year. I'll be examining all 24 categories today and remember, these are not my wishlists for what should get nominated, rather, this is me looking at a large swath of data before me, such as what films have been winning a lot on the awards circuit, what features & performances have been getting a large amount of buzz from high-profile award season watchers on sites like Gold Derby or the Fienberg Forecast and taking what kind of films, performances and such have scored nominations in years past.

Anywho, let's look at what my nominee predictions are....

Six People Who Should Host The Oscars This Year!

It appears that the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences is on the hunt for a host for this year's Oscars ceremony! Yes folks, it's that time of year when films will be judged by the majority of the populace not by their acting, writing, directing or any of that useless stuff, but rather by how many gold statues it received at an award ceremony that thought Eddie Redmayne looking at his hands for two hours was better than Michael B. Jordan grappling with his place in life in Creed. Anywho, the likes of Kevin Hart and Louie C.K. are being touted as potential candidates to host, but I've compiled five individuals who could be the absolute perfect picks to host this year's Oscars!

The Oscars Are Considering Going Through Some Major Changes, Including Expanding The Amount Of Nominees In The Acting Categories

This morning, I pulled up Variety.com and saw an interesting headline; Academy Mulls Changes To Halt Oscar Diversity Crisis. In case you've been living under a rock for the past week, the nominations for this years Academy Awards (announced a week ago today) were met with justified controversy due to there being no actors of color nominated in any of the four acting categories. Out of the 20 combined potential nominees for Best Actor/Actress/Supporting Actor/Supporting Actress, zero of them have been people of color for two straight years.

2015 Is The Year The Oscars Officially Lost Credibility

There's a headline that's bound to get chuckles from many readers, particularly those who've seen the various choices that the Academy Awards have made over the various years. Going back all the way to the 40's, one can see various winners of awards like Best Picture that feel ridiculous in retrospect, but those feel almost quaint compared to what the Academy Awards has become in recent years. Crash winning Best Picture? Happy Feet winning Best Animated Feature? Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side winning Best Actress? What the hell kind of wins are those?

Final 2014 Oscars Predictions

I must say, the announcement of the nominations for this years Academy Awards ceremony really took a spring out of my step. While it was great to see notable filmmakers like Wes Anderson and Richard Linklater receive long overdue recognition in the Best Director category, the lack of nominations for excellent people like Gillian Flynn, David Oyelowo, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ava Duvernay, and of course, a movie like The LEGO Movie just helped reinforce how out of touch the Oscars are with recognizing truly great cinema.

Sarah Palin Attempts To Stay Relevant By Praising American Sniper While Spewing Some Insults

Did you see how much American Sniper took in this past weekend? My God, I had a hunch the movie would do well, but $106 million over one four-day weekend? Insane stuff that not only reveals January as an effective place to launch a mega-successful feature, but also has opened the floodgates for praise for the Clint Eastwood directed feature. The film received an A+ Cinemascore grade from audiences this weekend, which means of course plenty of words of praise are on the way from audiences seeing it.

This Week, The Oscars Demonstrated Extremely Troubling Regress

This week, perhaps the most notable and talked about snub (aside from The LEGO Movie bizarrely not getting into Best Animated Feature) was Ava Duvernay not getting into Best Director for her superb work in Selma. Many complained, noting that the Academy Awards had displayed sexist and racist tendencies in the past. Other retorted to this, stating 12 Years A Slave winning Best Picture last year eradicated any possibility of those voting for the awards demonstrating racist tendencies, while also noting that the Academy should focus on voting for quality films instead of looking to "fill some quota".

Has there been a year before now where there have been this many big snubs? Oh sure, each ceremony brings one or two actors that should have been there, but this year felt like a whole other level of disappointments.
