One of the worlds most prolific authors, Ernest Hemingway, once wrote how "The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places." It's those broken places that The Avengers: Age of Ultron likes to focus on in its main heroes, specifically in how the damage they experience on both an emotional and physical level affects those around him. Heady stuff for a summer blockbuster? Well, just because your a movie that has several moments of big things going boom, that doesn't mean you can't have some thoughtful ideas to go with your spectacle. Hulk smashing buildings isn't nearly as fun if I can't get into his psyche after all.

Looking over the history of superhero films, there is no more important time period than the summer of 2008, wherein five very different superhero films debuted over the course of 12 weeks. One, Hancock, was not based on any preexisting property, while another, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, delved into Guillermo Del Toro style fantasy with aplomb. The differences between just these two movies is vast, but tossing in the other three that premiered over the summer just shows how wide in storytelling scope the framework of superhero cinema can be.

Elf is a prime example of a movie that shouldn't, under any circumstances, work. A comedian mugging it in a family movie? That always works out well. A sequence where the main character spies on a woman in the ladies locker room? Creep central. A lead character so optimistic and spunky should be aggravating. Instead, it's a treat of film, one of the very best features centered around the holiday of Christmas.

These ominous words are spoken by Ultron within the trailer for The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and they do a superbly effective way of reminding one how much impact each of the individual heroes have had on the world at large. Since teaming up to protect New York, the Presidents been kidnapped, an Infinity Stone almost destroyed reality itself and HYDRA forces have come up again. The influence of Iron Man and the like are felt in numerous positive ways...but they also can have negative consequences on those they care about.

Editorial: Can We Start Giving Superhero Movies Some Respect?

The writer with the largest presence on Rope of Silicon, Brad Brevet, used to be one of my favorite writers when it came to the world of cinema, but sometime last summer, a shift happened in his writing. It was like a switch flipped in his brain or something, every single thing he wrote was dripping in gratuitous cynicism. Now, a cynical approach is not only a perfectly fine way to write pieces on movies, it can be a great angle if one does it in a successful fashion. Unfortunately, Brevet has made it tiring to read his endless mean-spirited attitudes towards blockbuster filmmaking.

Last night, me and a buddy of mine watched Star Wars: Rebels, chit-chatted for a while, having too good of a time for me to think to check my phone. When I got home, I looked on The Hollywood Reporter for any major Hollywood news, and at the bottom of the page, was some humongous news; Robert Downey Jr. was going to be in Captain America 3. And this wasn't just a post-credits scene, no no no, this was to set up a cinematic adaptation of the Civil War storyline.

As you can imagine, I'm more than a little excited.

The Judge Review

Relics of the past adorn the first frames of The Judge, items meant to be deep symbolism by the end of the cinematic venture. For me, they hold no more meaning after 142 arduous minutes than they did once the film began, but truth be told, that's not a specific knock at the worn baseball glove that opens the movie. Very little of The Judge is actually worth caring about, and those relics are easily some of the misfires smallest offenders in terms of failure.

Iron Man 4 Is Happening....Maybe. Sort Of. I Dunno.

Jurassic Park 4. Any potential new season of Arrested Development. Iron Man 4. These are just three projects that have been in development forever, that constantly are brought up in interviews. Fans dream of seeing them, but weirdly, despite my adoration of Iron Man, I'm cool with no Iron Man 4. Now, if there was one, I'm sure I'd be pumped and jazzed for it, but right now, I can honestly say I'm OK with leaving Iron Man in its current form as a trilogy. 

Ranking All of The Marvel Studios Post-Credits Scenes From Best To Worst

Post-credits scenes have been around for ages, but very rarely did they do more than have Ferris Bueller tell you to go home or an extra gag at the end of a Pirates of The Caribbean movie. Today though, they're a major part of the moviegoing experience for numerous films, particularly ones coming out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To date, all ten of their films have had a stinger of some kind, and three of them even managed to have two. Now, I've taken it upon myself to rate all 13 of these Post-Credits scene in order from Worst to Best. Join me won't you, for this exciting voyage into mystery!

Marvel Kicks Butt At Comic-Con With Ant-Man and Avengers 2 News PLUS: Official Comic-Con Trailers Mad Max And Kevin Smiths Newest Movie

Comic-Con is all wrapped up now, but the memories will live on forever, namely the ones that occurred about 24 hours ago, when Marvel Studios took the stage to make another memorable panel in Hall H. The studio is pretty much the king of Comic-Con at this point, and they affirmed such a status by showing off footage from The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man.

As you can tell by my avatar, I'm kind of a Marvel fan. So obviously I'm super duper pumped to see what the studios got up their sleeve this forthcoming Comic-Con. One thing that'll be on prominent display is their major summer 2015 release The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which as you might have guessed, is a sequel to a mildly successful The Avengers. Entertainment Weekly has made the movie their cover story for the week, and as you can tell by the awesome cover above, The Avengers are about to face a mighty awesome looking foe. Below, are a bunch of new photos along with my brief explanations for the uninitiated.

Chef Review

It must be said that Jon Favreau has probably has had the most unexpected career trajectory in Hollywood except for maybe Neil Patrick Harris. Who would have thought the dude who played a recurring character on Buzz Lightyear of Star Command would end up directing the best Christmas (Elf) and Superhero (Iron Man) movies of all-time? Of course, he's had his struggles, with him squaring off against Marvel Studios over the direction of Iron Man 2 and Cowboys and Aliens becoming a major financial failure.
