The Poster For Ant-Man Continues Marvels Trouble With Posters

Much as I love Marvel Studios, whose films like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Guardians of The Galaxy have provided endless amounts of entertainment for me and moviegoers worldwide, it must be said that their posters for their movies, frankly, tend to suck. Oh sure, the teaser posters for Ant-Man, Guardians of The Galaxy and Iron Man 3 had an effective use of simplicity to it, but just look at the main poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron. That things got so much damn stuff going on, and very little of it makes sense (I still can't figure out what Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are standing on in that poster). That kind of cluttered atmosphere runs rampant in most Marvel posters, and that tradition somewhat continues today.

The poster for the very promising looking film Ant-Man, which you can see above, just dropped, and while it's nowhere near as bad as that Winter Soldier poster that photoshopped Scarlett Johanssons waistline to make her thinner (this is a thing that actually happened and that makes me sick), it's still got it's share of notable flaws. I actually like that the clear, colorful Ant-Man suit is in the center of the poster, his sharp red coloring really catches the eye. And while it's nice to see Michael Pena on the poster, giving off a warm smile to boot, he looks a bit shoehorned into the poster, the same of which can be said for Bobby Cannavale, who looks like he just woke up from a nap. If you ask me, I would have cut Cannavale from the poster and put Yellowjacket in his place, add a little something that adds extra excitement to the image. Also, the sketches of squares, which I think are related to Pym Particles that, in the comics, allow Ant-Man to shrink, are really distracting and don't work out of context.

This poster certainly isn't terrible, especially when compared to the art put out for the likes of Terminator: Genisys, but man, wouldn't it be nice if more of Marvel's movies received poster art that were half as compelling as the movies they promote? Hopefully, Ant-Man is closer in quality to its excellent second trailer than this poster.
