Warner Bros. Brings Wonder Woman, Hobbits and Channing Tatum To Comic-Con

Gal Godot as Wonder Woman
I'm not down in San Diego this weekend, but I am obsessing over everyone else live coverage of each and ever panel taking place at Comic-Con. And one of the biggest panels of the event happened just this morning; the one dedicated to Warner Bros. and their upcoming films. The three they noted they were bringing beforehand were Jupiter Ascending, Max Max: Fury Road and The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies.

For months though, many suspected they would bring a lot of information about their forthcoming movies based on their DC Comics properties. A list circulated by Nikki Finke (and supported by Kevin Smith) showed off a slate of movies Warner Bros. would unleash at this panel, which showed off three movies a year starting in 2016. Not even a whisper of those plans surfaced today, though some kind of teaser popped up (which did sound super awesome) and the first photo of Wonder Woman. I wish she had just a bit more color, but otherwise she looks great actually.

As for the other movies on the panel, reactions were actually predominantly positive, with many of the live bloggers noting particular admiration for the stuff shown for the final Hobbit picture. Jupiter Ascending was the first movie to show off stuff at the panel, and the main consensus was that it looked weird (what a surprise considering the duo who brought you Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas are in charge), but also fun. I love Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, who headline the movie, so hopefully they merge with The Wachowskis distinctive filmmaking  to make a movie that's more Cloud Atlas than Speed Racer.

I couldn't quite get a definitive vibe over how the Mad Max: Fury Road footage went over, but the style in which the movie itself was made certainly left an impression. Having not seen the other Mad Max movies, I can't say for certain if the project is one I'm excited for, but I will say director George Millers tactic to put emphasis on action above all else in the movie could either be the movies saving grace or the thing that ultimately destroys it.

Finally, a bunch of The Hobbit cast members (which sadly didn't include Ian McKellen) popped up to show off not just a teaser trailer for the movie, but also a blooper reel that contained footage from all of the movies. Stephen Colbert was on hand to host this portion of the panel and his many quips were very funny to read about. I avoided a full on description of the teaser trailer in order to be surprised when it gets unleashed maybe this week, but everyone really seemed to enjoy the fun atmosphere all of the beloved Hobbit actors brought to Hall H.
