Vice Is A Sprawling Saga of Corruption That Kind of Works (Surprisingly Well, In Fact) In Spite of Its Worst Elements

Adam McKay is mad as hell and he's not gonna take it anymore. Even when he was making ridiculous (though often highly hysterical) comedies that involved Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly licking dog turds, McKay clearly had some bitterness over how normalized powerful corruption was in America. Even a disappointingly rote Anchorman sequel managed to find time for commentary on how much 24-hour cable news is fixated on sizzle but not substance while the end credits of his comedic masterwork The Other Guys are dedicated to explaining how Ponzi schemes work. Is it any wonder then that his shift over to dramatic features with The Big Short and now Vice would tap directly into that frustration? What was subtext in his comedies is now the entire point of these more serious-minded, though frequently comedic, motion pictures that serve as McKay's most recent directorial efforts.

The Scariest Thing About Boo! A Madea Halloween Is Its Overlong Running Time

Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween was quite the momentous movie for me, for you see, I have never watched any other entries in the Madea saga (aside from the opening five minutes of Madea Goes To Jail) or any Tyler Perry directorial effort for that matter. With the release of this new Madea feature (the first new Tyler Perry film since Land Of The Nerds started, believe it or not), it was time for me to get better acquainted with a filmmaker whose been met with non-stop critical derision over the past decade unless he's appearing in a David Fincher drama.

Madea To Haunt Movie Theaters This October

Remember the Chris Rock film Top Five? Well, at one point in the film, the poster for a film entitled Boo! A Madea Halloween is shown, as well as a long line of patrons eager to see the motion picture. It was a humorous little moment that had faded from my memory...until yesterday when it was announced that Tyler Perry would be ending his two years hiatus from directing (his last film was the March 2014 effort Single Mom's Club) to make that parody poster into a real feature film. That's right folks, Boo! A Madea Halloween is coming to a theater near you on October 21, 2016.

Fan-Casting The Sinister Six

One aspect of the Spider-Man movies that surprises me is how, even though we've had five films centered around the web-crawler, there's so many parts of the characters mythology we have yet to see in cinematic form. Black Cat, Sinister Six, Kraven The Hunter, Vulture, Mysterio....so many creations from the comics have yet to see the light of a film projector. Part of the blame for these characters staying on the wayside can be attributed  how The Amazing Spider-Man retread an enormous amount of storytelling ground from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films, meaning time that could have been spent setting up new characters like The Chameleon and Silver Sable was spent going over the whole Uncle Ben fiasco again.

Gone Girl Review

My procedure for movies based on books is to not give the literature that inspired the feature a read prior to seeing the film. It's not that I'm against books in general, it's just that I want to treat the film as a separate entity as much as possible. Gone Girl adds an interesting facet to this tactic though by having Gillian Flynn, the woman who wrote the book that this movie is based on, write the films screenplay. If her books are anything like this films writing in terms of quality, I'll be sure to check out any and all of her work ASAP.

It was one of those movies that's just so amazingly well made, it never fails to boggle your mind.
