Walt Whitman Once Said To Dismiss That Which Insults Your Soul, So I Shall Readily Dismiss Yoga Hosers

I can sometimes be a bit of a dummy when it comes to grappling with the more subtle nuances of distinctly esoteric pieces of art, so take this bold theory about Yoga Hosers that I'm about to drop on you with a grain of salt. I think this movie...was set...in Canada. It's kind of a shocking idea, but there are some subdued clues scatted throughout the motion picture that lead me to believe that that's where this specific tale is set. For instance, did you notice the endless parade of jokes about Canadian accents (which our two main characters infrequently sport)? Or the end credits where the two leads since a rendition of O, Canada? Stuff like that is what made my mind question if this movie was set in the Great White North.

Profane Dialogue Can Only Go So Far For Clerks

With Kevin Smith's newest film, Yoga Hosers, bowing in theaters today (hopefully I'll have a review for that 2016 motion picture up by the end of the weekend), I thought it was high time I dug into the motion picture that kicked off the directing career of Mr. Smith, a 1994 film called Clerks that bowed at that year's Sundance Film Festival and became a cult classic in no time. Living up to its title, Clerks focuses on a day in the life of two clerks, Dante (Brian O'Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson), the former working at a convenience store and the latter spending his days at a video rental store.

The Trailer For Yoga Hosers Is Just The Wurst

Next month, a new film from Kevin Smith will be released. No, it isn't the long-gestating Hit Somebody. No, it isn't Mallrats II; Mallbrats. No, it isn't Clerks III. No, it isn't Moose Jaws. No, it isn't a reincarnated form of Superman Lives. The filmmakers newest feature (and only his second film to carry a PG-13 rating, if I'm not mistaken) is the Canadian horror film Yoga Hosers. It looks...pretty terrible, honestly. Check out the new trailer for it below.

Dazed And Confused Review (Classic Write-Up)

At this point, the rise of a new breed of indie filmmaker in the early 90's is practically a legend itself, with the rise of individuals like Robert Rodriguez, Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino ushering in a new age of cinema at the dawn of the final decade of the 20th century. Just as the likes of Steven Spielberg and Woody Allen shifted the paradigm of filmmaking in the 70's, these storytellers were changing everything as far as indie cinema, and even film in general, and among those directors altering the movie landscape at this time was a guy by the name of Richard Linklater. Emerging from Austin, Texas, his debut film, Slacker, had actually inspired fellow early 90's indie cinema auteur Kevin Smith to become a director.

Horror movies are in a rut. Scratch that, they've been in a rut for ages. For a time, the success of Saw led to most of the genre being inhabited by film solely focused on torture porn. Then Paranormal Activity became a phenomenon and everything had to be found-footage. The influence of The Conjuring is already being felt, with a large amount of features being centered around on spooky homes, families, strange noises and jump scares.
