My Thoughts On The Nutty News That Squirrel Girl Is Going To Star In A Marvel TV Show!

So, it looks like the movie side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe constantly dragging its feet when it comes to doing any type of female-led project (where is that Black Widow movie we've all been wanting for so long?) means, once again, another notable female superhero from their comic books will be heading to the small screen instead, following Jessica Jones and Inhumans characters Medusa and Crystal. That character in question is Squirrel Girl, whom The Hollywood Reporter notes will star in a New Warriors TV show for Freeform, the network formerly known as ABC Family.

The New Warriors TV show will launch with a 10 episode season that consists of half-hour episodes, good to hear on both counts as both the episode count and overlong running time of individual episodes on the Marvel Netflix shows has led to some dreadful pacing problems on those programs. Kevin Biegel, a guy from Scrubs and Cougar Town, is handling the project. I really really wish Squirrel Girl could have gone to the movies, not only because the film side of the MCU is in dire need of female superheroes but because her powers (which include talking to squirrels) feel like they could only be done on a feature film budget (this is also why I feel like Inhumans as a TV show is a poor fit).

The mixed (at best) track record for Marvel Television also hurts things, but I'll remain optimistic. It's gonna be great to see Squirrel Girl in a lead role capacity in live-action form and Freeform has apparently been home to some TV programs that have been well-received among both critics and my social circle. If the shows half as good as the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl comics, we should be in for a treat! May I suggest though that Bel Powley get the chance to play this nutty hero? I feel like she'd be absolutely perfect!
