Comic-Con is coming up next week, and Warner Bros. is bringing the heat by showing off their two DC Comics motion pictures next year. One of those films is Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, a film that has generated an enormous amount of debate, ranging from the casting to the quality of the new Batman suit to the lack of color in promo images for the movie. Entertainment Weekly, as part of their annual Comic-Con issue, is not only putting Batman v. Superman on the cover of the magazine, but also a number of images from the movie, as well as my analysis of each image, that you can view below!
First off, that's the cover with all three DC superheroes front and center. Really nice to see Wonder Woman (whose costume looks kick-ass in proper coloring) being given such prominent placement, and it's astounding what a dash of color can do to the quality of ones costumes, though Ben Afflecks Batman seems a little...off. It's the facial expression to me, which looks unintentionally comedic. Still, it's waaaaaay better than other Entertainment Weekly covers that were pretty subpar (who else remembers The Dark Knight Rises cover with the weird red background? Or those Age of Ultron covers from this past Spring?)
I think Superman is at a...Juggalo event? In all seriousness, Superman is the character I'm most worried about here, as he was a blank bland mess in Man of Steel. The fight between him and Batman is gonna be as dull as dishwater if there's no personality in this Kryptonian warrior for me to invest in.
Well, Ben Affleck certainly is a dead ringer for Bruce Wayne in this image. I always thought he'd fit like a glove into Bruce Wayne, and his unexpectedly dark work in Gone Girl makes me think he could pull off Batman if given the chance. Also; looks like Wonder Woman will have her Diana Prince alter-ego here, as her more casual non-lasso wielding get-up here implies.
Ah, poor Batman. Got stood up on his date with Superman. Don't worry man, we all get stood up, it happens to the best of us.
Here's maybe the most peculiar image of the bunch, only because the first image of Jesse Eisenbergs Lex Luthor had him as a bald fellow. I suppose he'll have wigs in the movie, though maybe he gets in an accident or something that burns his hair. I dunno. All I know is that blue shirt with black polka dots that Lex is wearing is surprisingly awesome
It's been said before, but it bears repeating; this Batman looks like LEGO Batman. I know they're taking a cue from The Dark Knight Returns, but in live-action form, it looks like LEGO Batman.
