As a Disney Animation fanatic, nothing makes me happier than the announcement of new projects from the studio. A level of secrecy hangs over the studios future films; the only film beyond Big Hero 6 that's been officially revealed is Zootopia. But today, Walt Disney Animation Studios finally unveiled their other 2016 project, Moana, the newest movie from Ron Clements and John Musker!
This new movie from the directing duo, who have handled such projects as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, The Princess And The Frog, and one of Disneys most underrated animated features Treasure Planet, has announced very little of a concrete plot, though apparently it will involve an epic adventure of some kind, a female protagonist named Moana and will take place in the South Seas, a location that offers the opportunity to bring that location to life in a gorgeous manner only animation can accomplish.
Like I said, I'm a big Disney Animation nut, and the films by Ron and John are big standouts in the companies pantheon, both due to their quality and their tendency to be underrated (everyone rightly adores The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, but where's the love for Hercules, The Princess And The Frog and especially Treasure Planet?). I can't wait to see what they cook up here, especially since rumors seem to indicate the film will have a unique animation style. The concept art below shows what kind of potential this thing could have on a visual level alone.
