Ash Goes Medieval On The Undead In The Most Fun Evil Dead Movie, Army of Darkness

If you thought Ash (Bruce Campbell) was done getting into demon-enhanced trouble, well, you don't know the guy very well because his adventures related to those nefarious Candarian Demons have only begun. Following directly from the ending of Evil Dead II, Ash has been time-warped to the Middle Ages where he's taken prisoner by a local kingdom and sentenced to death along with the ruler of a rival kingdom. How will they be killed? Why, by being fed to one of the Candarian Demons that the kingdom has trapped in a giant pit. Everyone else that's been tossed into this pit has been immediately killed but Ash uses his wits and his trusty chainsaw to kill the demon and earn the admiration of the local populace.

Evil Dead II Thrusts Tons Of Crazy Well-Crafted Scares On The Audience

If you thought Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) had already been through hell watching all of his friends and his girlfriend get killed by demonic spirits in the first Evil Dead movie, just wait until you see how Evil Dead II puts this character through the wringer. Continuing right where the first one left off, Ash is trapped in the forest where that fateful cabin he and his friends got trapped in resides with there being no way to escape. He's stuck here with these Candarian Demons, who are bent on messing with his mind and eventually devouring him. Just because Ash is up against formidable supernatural forces though doesn't mean this guy is about to go down without a fight.

Spider-Man 2 Review (Classic Write-Up)

Every summer blockbuster sequel wants to be The Empire Strikes Back. After all, that was one of the first major summer blockbuster follow-ups of its kind in a post-Jaws/Star Wars/Superman: The Movie world and it's still regarded today as the best film in the entire Star Wars saga. What many take away from the artistic success of The Empire Strikes Back is that it was solely the darker elements of the story that made it good. Thus, ya get a lot of summer blockbusters that tweak the color grading to harsher colors and toss in a lot of violence in order to become the next Empire Strikes Back. But that specific element is not what made that Irvin Kershner film so beloved. It was the fact that Empire Strikes Back dove deeper into its characters psyche, tested them, put them in new more morally complex situations that challenged them and the audience. Oh, and it was also well-made, full of fun action, Yoda was an incredible creation from his first line of dialogue onward, ya get the idea.

For 50 years, the thought had crept into the minds of everyone across the planet...what would a Spider-Man movie look like? For some, it was just a passing mental diversion, a notion that would fade as quickly as it came. For others, it was a concept that persisted in their cranium, imagining what the web-crawler would look like in the realm of live-action cinema. Considering how much of a grip Spider-Man had had on pop culture, it's understandable why such a proposal would have inhabited the imaginations of billions of individuals around the world. The comic book saga of meek Peter Parker gaining superhero abilities had emerged as one of the great modern-day fictional media creations.

X-Men Is Far Far From Perfect, But It Forever Changed the Superhero Movie Game

This Friday brings a project to the big screen few thought would ever truly exist...a live-action Deadpool movie. The eighth feature film in the live-action X-Men feature film series in 16 years, it's one of a number of project Fox has in the pipeline for this universe of mutants, most of which are movies (X-Men: Apocalypse of course arrives in May, and next year will bring the final solo Hugh Jackman as Wolverine movie and will likely unleash a solo Gambit film unto the Earth) and a few of which are TV shows (such as the Dan Stevens FX program Legion). With all of these mutant projects on the horizon, it's easy to forget this whole shindig started with one little 2000 feature film called (what else?) X-Men.

All then-newbie director Sam Raimi wanted to do was make a horror movie. Teaming up with long-time friend Bruce Campbell, who would play the lead character in this prospective feature, Raimi dived into making this project, armed with a minuscule budget (which primarily came from donations from numerous individuals and family members Raimi and Campbell were familiar with) and a script chock full of grisly violence. The result? Well, judging by the immense influence The Evil Dead has had on cinematic horrors in the 30+ years since its initial release, I'd say they might have done something right in their endeavor.
