YAHOOO! The First Trailer For The Angry Birds Movie Has Flung Onto The Web!

As weird as this may sound, I kind of get why an Angry Birds movie exists. I'm not saying it's guaranteed to be a masterpiece destined to be hailed as a cinematic masterpiece on par with the works of Jean-Luc Godard, but the franchise has already invaded the realm of animated shorts, so is a feature length film really all that implausible on a conceptual level? Plus, at least this one is aiming to be a family comedy, and not trying to be a dark gritty take on the mobile game fowl. Are Video Game Movies About To (Finally) Hit The Big Time?

Quick! Name a good video game movie! Can't do it? I don't blame ya*. Movie adaptations of video games have been the sort of affair that sounds good in concept, but falls flat on its face in execution. Critics and audiences have been disdainful of the likes of Need For Speed, and even financially, only one video game film (Laura Croft: Tomb Raider) has crossed $100 million at the domestic box office. Looking at the state of things, it's easy to despair that the idea of a good video game movie is as likely to occur as Half-Life 3.

A Tetris Movie Is Actually Happening And I Have An Idea For The Films Plot

Video games haven't exactly had the bets success being translated into film, but over the next few years, a resurgence of video game features will try to get more high-quality features in that particular genre created. The likes of Assassins Creed, Angry Birds and World of Warcraft will be brought to the big screen, and now Tetris can be added to the slate of upcoming films based on video games.

There are numerous directors whose works have passed me by. I've only just now dabbled in the films of Quentin Tarantino, while most of Paul Thomas Andersons filmography remains a mystery to me. Luckily, the works of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have also eluded me, with such critically beloved films as Date Movie and Meet The Spartans remaining just bad trailers to me. But for this column, I decided to suck it up and finally give one of their films, a Hunger Games parody entitled The Starving Games, a watch.

He gets a lot of peculiar criticism from the cynical Internet community, but Steven Spielberg remains one of my favorite directors ever. His blockbusters movies alone would be enough to earn a place among the greats (Jurassic Park and Jaws were particularly impactful for me) but his ability to deliver the goods in dramas like War Horse just shows how expansive and talented the filmmaker is.

His expansiveness is on display again here in his next two movies, which have just been given dates.
