I Feel Pretty Has A Thoughtful Moral And An Abundance of Lackluster Comedy To Impart

I Feel Pretty is your basic middle-of-the-road comedy, but I do want to give it props for conveying an important message that more films need to carry. The idea of making a whole film dedicated to the idea of reminding women that who they are should define what they think is "pretty" instead of narrowly defined conventions of American society is way a more admirable thesis to pivot your movie around than what you would find in your typical disposable Adam Sandler or Kevin James comedy. Good on I Feel Pretty for having such a considerate theme fueling its whole story, though that story itself, and especially how it's executed, is woefully paint-by-numbers in too many respects.

Snatched Has Some Funny Moments But It's Too Heavily Scattered To Work Fully

Family vacations always seem to detour into unexpected misadventures and detours and all kinds of other problems in the real world, but in the movies, I don't think there's such a thing as a drama-free vacation. Whether it's the Griswalds going on their Family Vacation or European Vacation or those Millers posing as a clean-cut family to get down to Mexico or Robin Williams and his family in the 2006 family film RV, cinematic depictions of family vacations just seem destined to go awry. Snatched, a new Amy Schumer/Goldie Hawn comedy, very much continues this pattern of family getaways very much not going according to plan.

Trainwreck Does Not Go Off The Rails (I Spent Five Hours Working On That Pun,  Savor It)

Perhaps one of the more interesting aspects of Amy Schumer breaking out with Trainwreck is her lack of previous film roles. The likes of Zach Galifianakis, Melissa McCarthy and Will Ferrell spent years as character actors doing supporting roles in comedies, whereas Schumers largest film roles prior to Trainwreck were an uncredited role in Sleepwalk With Me and a part in Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World.
