After many years and many many failed scripts, and even more numerous pushes from Dan Aykroyd, it looks like Ghostbusters 3 is finally taking form. Paul Feig signed on a while back to write and direct the movie, which would have a female group of Ghostbusters. It looks like that group is finally getting casted, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Leading the films cast will be an actress Feig has worked with three times already, Melissa McCarthy. She'll play the lead character in the film, continuing her streak of working with Feig on past hit films like Bridesmaids and The Heat. I've been iffy on McCarthy's features in the past (Tammy was particularity dreadful), but hey, good on her for getting a major role. I'm much more excited by the prospect of Feig and Kristen Wiig reuniting for the film, as The Hollywood Reporter also reports that the actress is in talks to join the film.
I'm a massive fan of Wiig, and after seeing her in the supremely underrated The Skeleton Twins, I can attest that she's certainly got some acting chops. Hopefully she can join this tentpole project. Two other names being looked at for the film are SNL cast members Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. I'm not as familiar with those two, but I am glad to see the cast for this potentially fascinating project shaping up. If Feig is looking for other people to cast for Ghostbusters 3 though, might I suggest Kristen Schaal for a role in the film?
