A Simple Favor Is A Delightfully Unhinged Comedic Thriller

A Simple Favor is the latest in a long line of movies to be woefully mismarketed. Conventional trailers and commercials for the latest Paul Feig directorial effort try to portray the feature as being in the vein of recent financially lucrative Fall thrillers like The Girl On The Train and Gone Girl, but A Simple Favor is far different than those two movies. Instead of being a straightforward dramatic thriller, A Simple Favor is instead a movie that is to loopy thrillers what Rampage was to big monster movies, a big-budget star-studded homage to that just revels in all kinds of trashy twists and "Gotcha!" shock moments. Also like Rampage, A Simple Favor is super fun to watch.

Ghostbusters Review

After a summer full of so many big budget clunkers, the incredibly entertaining Ghostbusters arrives like a bucket of cool water to a man stranded in the Sahara for months on end. Seriously, where was this level of fun, sincerity and care been in the likes of Independence Day: Resurgence and X-Men: Apocalypse? Leave it to Paul Feig and co. to follow up the directors exceptional Spy from last summer with a remake that's not relentlessly beholden to what's come before. There's a vibrant sensation of the new pulsating through Ghostbusters and it's a vibe that's impossible to resist.

What Does The Future Hold For Ghostbusters?

This past Thursday, Sony/Columbia rolled out the debut trailer for their big summer 2016 tentpole feature, Ghostbusters. A reboot of the 1984 Ivan Reitman feature, the teaser debut to mostly positive reactions from publications like Forbes and Hitfix, though patrons on YouTube expressed displeasure with a massive amount of dislikes (its like-to-dislike ratio is worse than the trailers for God's Not Dead 2, Pixels and even the Point Break remake) and numerous introspective comments calling for the death of the four lead actors. In terms of analytics, Pro Box Office noted, when looking at its impact on social media websites and view count across multiple platforms four days into the trailers existence, that "as far as trailer impacts and splashes go, they really don't get much bigger than this."

After Spy, I'm totally down for whatever Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy are up to. Their Ghostbusters reboot (which Feig is directing with McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon starring as the titular team ya gotta call) already sounded promising, but now, a new cast member has been added to the project that really makes this one sound special; according to Paul Feigs Twitter feed, Chris Hemsworth will play the receptionist for these new Ghostbusters,

Spies Like Us

Susan Cooper is the main character of Spy, and let me just start this review off by saying how delightful she is as a character. Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) is a warm, friendly personality whose unintentionally awkward and constantly being belittled by a number of her co-workers, including Bradley Fine (Jude Law). Paul Feigs script for Spy manages to create a delightful personality for Susan thriving on conviviality, while also giving her goals pertaining to the fact that everybody at the CIA (where she works) underestimates her.

Melissa McCarthy Is The Lead In Ghostbusters 3

After many years and many many failed scripts, and even more numerous pushes from Dan Aykroyd, it looks like Ghostbusters 3 is finally taking form. Paul Feig signed on a while back to write and direct the movie, which would have a female group of Ghostbusters. It looks like that group is finally getting casted, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ghostbusters 3 has been a potentiality for years, mainly through Dan Aykroyds refusal to give up on the franchise. But Bill Murray has always said he'd never do another one, and earlier this year the director of the two original Ghostbusters films Ivan Reitman also said he's not up for another proton pack adventure.
