Well, here's the final (for now!) set of my Oscar predictions. This time around, I'm covering the Supporting Acting categories, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress specifically. Shall we get this started then?
Unlike my past two Oscar predictions articles, these categories won't be split into sections, I shall simply discuss my predictions for the candidates in each specific category.
Best Supporting Actor
There appear to be four surefire nominees here; Edward Norton for Birdman, Mark Ruffalo for Foxcatcher, Ethan Hawke for Boyhood and J.K. Simmons for Whiplash. Interestingly, the final slot in this category is a direct contrast to those four, since it's a wide open race for the last nomination at this point. Robert Duvall is a favorite for his turn in The Judge, thanks to him getting nods at high profile ceremonies like the Golden Globes. He's likely, but for now, I'm gonna go gutsy and say that Tom Wilkinson's portrayal of Lyndon B Johnson in Selma will be the final nomination in Best Supporting Actor,
Best Supporting Actress
Here's a shocker; Meryl Streep will have a presence at the Oscars this year. Her turn in Into The Woods is likely to get in here, as is Emma Stone in Birdman and Patricia Arquette for Boyhood. Kiera Knightly will likely get in as well for her turn in The Imitation Game, while the final slot will probably go to Jessica Chastain in A Most Violent Year. That feature has had a decent track record with awards thus far, but Chastain has been a prominent fixture in this particular category during this awards season.
To recap, here are the nominees I have for these two categories currently:
Best Supporting Actor
Ethan Hawke (Boyhood)
Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher)
J.K. Simmons (Whiplash)
Tom Wilkinson (Selma)
Edward Norton (Birdman)
Best Supporting Actress
Meryl Streep (Into The Woods)
Emma Stone (Birdman)
Kiera Knightly (The Imitation Game)
Jessica Chastain (A Most Violent Year)
Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)
I'll revisit the five categories I've predicted this week, and a few others for the first time, in about a week and a half's time, just a day or two prior to the official nominations being announced.
