They said it couldn't be done.
They said it was impossible.
Could an actor who has managed to ace it in roles ranging from playing a French leopard, an astronaut and the person behind the killing of Osama Bin Laden possibly get any more awesome?
Today, the answer to such an eon old inquiry has been answered, as two-time Academy Award nominated actor Jessica Chastain has announced she'll be starting up a production company called Freckle Films, which will have a first look deal with Maven Pictures, which has produced Girl Most Likely, Black Nativity and the upcoming Andrea Arnold motion picture American Honey.
Deadline broke the news on this exciting development, including which films will be the first two projects created under the Freckle Films banner. The two movies in question are The Magician's Lie (the tale of an illusionist who attempts to prove her innocence in the matter of her husband's murder) and Life And Other Near Death Experiences (which deals with a woman named Libby Miller, recently diagnosed with cancer, looking for serenity in Puerto Rico).
Founder of Maven Pictures, Celine Rattray, explicitly notes the production company will look to be "...showcasing female talent both in front of and behind the camera." Considering 85% of the movies released in 2014 lacked a female director, yeah, it's pretty awesome to see a studio and one of Hollywood's most prolific actors taking some major steps to rectify such startling directorial statistics. And if such films are even half as successful as Chastain's on-screen performances in films like A Most Violent Year and The Help, we should be in for some great cinema too!
