Ingrid Goes West Has Refreshing And Entertaining Things To Say About Technology

We all use social media these days, but if you think you're hooked on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and all those sorts of apps, just wait until you meet Ingrid (Aubrey Plaza). This is one person whose fixation on social media goes well into the unhealthy territory and her aggravation over seeing Instagram pictures of her "best friends" wedding that she wasn't invited leads her to attack said "best friend" at that wedding. After that, she's been spending some extended time at a mental institution, hoping to get her life in order...until she finds the next target of her obsession, a Los Angeles social media icon by the name of Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen).

Annabelle: Creation Is A Better Than Expected Fright-Fest

Though I've seen the two Conjuring movies, the original Annabelle from October 2014 is something my eyeballs have not witnessed, mostly because I heard only bad things about it and I wasn't as open to seeing horror fare on a regular basis theatrically as I am just three years later. As for the former detail, both film critics and audiences alike seemed to just not give much of a hoot about the movie once they saw it and if the director of Annabelle's follow-up feature Wish Upon is any indication of the quality seen there, well, I can understand the disdain. For the prequel Annabelle: Creation, director David F. Sandberg (director of Lights Out) is now at the helm and hey! Whaddya know, the movies actually some solid scary stuff!

Wish Upon Is Thoroughly Forgettable And Anemic Horror Fare

Wishes always lead to trouble, whether you're wishing to be a prince to impress a princess or you're wishing for a turkey sandwich on rye bread or you're wishing for whatever the characters in that Wes Craven produced Wishmaster movie were wishing for. Taking this mystical shortcut always generates all sorts of unintended consequences which is likely why it's become a horror movie plot mainstay over the years. The newest usage of this recurring storyline comes in the form of the horror movie Wish Upon, an anemic horror film direly lacking in the way of scares and one you'd want to wish away from your memory except it's highly likely you'll forget about mere seconds after it's done.
