The Cast and Characters Are What Really Make Terminator: Dark Fate A Delightful Surprise

Here we go again. A robot has traveled back in time to kill a person and another robot has also been spent back in time to protect that person. This time around, the person being targeted is Daniella Ramos (Natalia Reyes), who just works a nine-to-five shift in a factory, her life is pretty normal all things considered. But that all changes once she's targeted by the Terminator known as Rev-9 (Gabriel Luna), this robotic creation will not stop until Daniella is killed. Luckily, Daniella has got Grace (Mackenzie Davis) to protect her. Grace is a human being from the future augmented with robotic enhancements, she's a prime fighter to fight again Rev-9. She can't protect Daniella alone though, which is where Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), who's spent the past two decades killing any and all Terminators that cross her path, comes into the picture as they all try to stay alive and protect the future. 

Predator Uses Sharp Writing To Make It Such An Absorbing Feature

Predator and Alien have been intertwined for decades now, with a handful of Alien vs. Predator comics released through 1989 and 1990 introducing the concept to the world and the appearance of a Xenomorph skull in Predator 2 solidifying this connection forevermore. Interestingly though, there's something pretty important that connects these two science-fiction franchises beyond just them sharing two cross-over movies together. Both Alien and Predator kicked off their individual sagas with small-scale adventures that heavily kept the titular alien organisms off-screen for much of the runtime. This decision led to Alien being one of the all-time best horror movies while it led to Predator being a smarter than expected action film.

Terminator 3 Is A Derivative Disaster That Ended Up Being The Worst Movie In The Franchise

In the Terminator universe, the end of the world comes in the form of Judgement Day, the day when the machines took over, nuked the planet and sent humanity to near-extinction. But for the Terminator as a movie series, the end basically came when James Cameron left the directors chair and some producers decided to trot out the Terminator brand name for some easy bucks despite the fact that the entire Terminator plotline was obviously wrapped up in a tidy and satisfying bow at the end of the second Terminator movie. Screw concise storytelling though, we've got some pennies we still haven't wrung out of this dead horse!

Terminator 2 Is Just Non-Stop Thrills And Fun

Nowadays, sequels come at relatively fast pace, with the superhero cinematic universes delivering multiple sequels a year and big franchises like Transformers and James Bond typically taking three year breaks in between movies. This was not so in the late years of the 20th century, when the perception of sequels began to shift drastically in the face of successful movies like The Empire Strikes Back and The Godfather: Part II. Previously, sequels were seen as a faux pas, but now, they were seen as potentially huge moneymakers, even if some franchises (like Robocop and Alien) still took their sweet time to get their much-anticipated follow-ups off the ground.

Part of the problem, I suspect, with Arnold Scwarzeneggers most recent forays into cinema (The Last Stand, Escape Plan, Sabotage) is that audiences don't know what to make of the dude anymore. After his stint as the Governor of California, he returned to movies expecting a whole generation who only knew him as a political figure would know and love his persona as an action movie badass. The guys still got the good to kick ass, as seen in The Last Stand, but marketing for those new movies never really gave any indication to newcomers why Arnold was someone to be reckoned with, they just expected you to know it as a solid fact along the lines of "rain is wet" or "the sky is blue".

Terminator hasn't had the best of luck with it's modern day installments. The third one did decently at the box office,  but Terminator: Salvation disappointed in 2009. Now, a new movie attempts to take the franchise in a new direction. by recasting most of the well-known characters from the original and bring Arnold Schwarzenegger back to the franchise. That film is Terminator: Genisys, and the first trailer for it just dropped, and you can catch it below.
