Rare is the trip by airplane that goes exactly as planned. You're bound to end up getting transferred to another flight or missing some piece of luggage or landing hours later than originally expected if you end up choosing this mode of transportation. Dr. Ben Bass (Idris Elba) and Alex Martin (Kate Winslet) were already facing the kind of mundane difficulties we all go through when trying to embark on a flight, namely being unable to get on flights they absolutely need to get on for extremely important personal events (Bass has a patient he has to perform surgery on while Martin is getting married the next day).

Allegiant Shows Worrisome Shrinkage In Middling Thursday Night Numbers

The third entry in the Divergent saga, Allegiant, got started last night with only OK results, taking in $2.35 million, a sharp decline from the Thursday night grosses posted by its predecessors. Divergent grossed $4.9 million at these screenings two years ago while Insurgent made $4.1 million at Thursday night showings just last year. To put that into perspective, that means Allegiant made 52% less than Divergent and 42% less than Insurgent last night. Yikes. Due to its smaller Thursday night numbers, allegiant will likely be less front-loaded than its predecessors, though it'll be interesting to see if it can crack $30 million for the weekend. Either way, it's unlikely to take away the number one spot at the box office from Zootopia, which has been performing like gangbusters all week and brought its domestic haul to $163.8 million yesterday.

In the year since Divergent was released, so much has changed for the cast. Shailiene Woodley (along with Divergent co-star Ansel Elgort) dazzle in The Fault In Our Stars, Miles Teller starred in one of the best movies of the past few years, Whiplash, and Theo James did.....uh, I think he signed on to star in a reboot of the Underworld movies. Simply put, these guys have done some great work since the first Divergent film, which makes seeing them return to this franchise disappointing, especially considering how lackluster it is.

The First Trailer For Divergent Sequel Insurgent Tosses Tris Into Apocalyptic Action

Divergent sorta came and went for me earlier this year. It's not bad mind you, but it is mediocre, just sort of something not good enough to stand out in my mind, but also not bad enough to be noticeable either. It did make a nice amount of cash though, $150 million domestically alone, and so a sequel is underway, this time with 3D supercharges in order to boost international grosses. The Maze Runner Gets A New Trailer Full of Twists And Turns (Get It?)

Lots of YA Novels are being translated to the screen this year, in hopes of jump-starting a new franchise. Mixed results have come from these movies, at least in 2014; Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars made big bucks, but Vampire Academy flopped big time. In terms of quality, I loved Fault, didn't care for Divergent, and didn't even bother with Vampire Academy, but just like superhero movies, it's each movies unique plot and not the exact genre these films belong to that lure audiences into the theater.
