In The List!!!, I do a list that just reeks of being click-bait, analyzing a particular topic or subject that pertains to something major occurring in pop-culture. This week, in honor of those elderly action stars kicking butt and not chewing bubble gum in The Expendables 3, I look at five actors that need to be in the next installment.
Nicolas Cage: One thing these Expendables movies have done well is in giving us villains who can be extremely entertaining, namely Mel Gibsons turn in the third entry. Cage would easily continue the trend as a baddie, especially if they let him go just off-the-handle crazy. Let this dude go crazy in an antagonistic role, and it could be something of true bizarre beauty.
Kurt Russell: Russell doesn't work much anymore (though Fast & Furious 7 will have him in a major role next year) but he'd fit in nicely with the cast, considering he was a mainstay in the 80's. Perhaps he could be a former Expendable (like Wesley Snipes) or some kind of helpful side character (like Kelsey Grammer). Lots of potential here, and hopefully he'd want to partake in the adventure.
Also, I just gotta say, I had no idea he had grown that beard before I saw the above image. Dayum son!
Charlie Sheen: Sheen is about as reliable as the sun rising and setting when it comes to engaging in tabloid fodder off the set of his various projects. Still, considering hit 80's movies like Red Dawn, Wall Street and Platoon are a big part of his career, he wouldn't be unwelcome. Have him play an unhinged former Expendable and presto! Ya got yourself some tiger blood, er, Charlie Sheen, in your action franchise.
Al Pacino: Pacino was considered to be in the first Expendables feature, but I say bring him along for the next adventure. That kind of out-of-nowhere star power could entertainingly juxtapose with the barrage of violence the film unleashes. Plus, him rubbing shoulders with the likes of Schwarzenegger would be fun on its own merits.
Chuck Norris: He came out of nowhere in The Expendables 2, but after making a Chuck Norris joke and laying waste to several baddies in that movie, we now know where Chuck Norris role in these movies is...in our hearts. Seriously, the dude was great and I'd love to see him come back. Maybe Cage kidnaps him, or, even better, Norris takes a turn to the dark side! Evil Chuck Norris, that'd be fun to see!
