Star Wars Rebels (S1E1) Review: Send In The Droids

I can't tell you how nervous I was for this episode. I mean, adding C-3PO and R2-D2 to the world of Star Wars: Rebels just reeked of poorly done fan-service. There are so many possibilities in this universe, and we're already reusing characters from the original trilogy? My cynical mindset was fully in control as I started watching the episode...and then C-3PO and R2-D2 entered the screen and it all melted away. Gosh darn it, I love those droids, and I was so, so, so happy to see them again.

Last night, me and a buddy of mine watched Star Wars: Rebels, chit-chatted for a while, having too good of a time for me to think to check my phone. When I got home, I looked on The Hollywood Reporter for any major Hollywood news, and at the bottom of the page, was some humongous news; Robert Downey Jr. was going to be in Captain America 3. And this wasn't just a post-credits scene, no no no, this was to set up a cinematic adaptation of the Civil War storyline.

As you can imagine, I'm more than a little excited.

Star Wars: Rebels Review

Sometimes, the original Star Wars movies strike me as some of the most underrated features in Hollywood. Now, that may sound ridiculous considering the massive pop culture impact those three movies had, but that kind of influence can make people forget that, beyond all the cool toys, video games, clothes, TV shows, three excellent films started  this whole mammoth franchise. Rewatching the original trilogy over the course of the past two weeks not only reminded me of how incredible those movies are, but it also put me in the perfect mindset to take in the first Star Wars project released from Disney, Star Wars: Rebels.

New Star Wars Television Show Gets An Extended Trailer

I absolutely loved Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and was super sad to see it go. The major reason the team behind that show called it quits was to start up the first major project between Lucasfilm and Disney: Star Wars: Rebels. This CGI animated TV show will start airing regularly on Disney XD shortly after an hour long special debuts on Disney Channel in October. Just before its presentation at Comic-Con this weekend, Disney has debuted an extended trailer you can watch below.
