Warcraft Review

Now, the story of Duncan Jones 2016 motion picture Warcraft is a tad complex, so let's get the plot summary right out of the way, shall we? The world of the Orcs is dying and they need a new home. Their leader, Gul'Dan (Daniel Wu), uses green mist to extract energy from innocent people to power a portal to the human world where a large group of Orcs intend to gather enough human prisoners to power up the portal to a point where it can bring all of the other Orcs over. Among these Orcs is Durotan (Toby Kebbell), one of the few explicitly "good" Orcs and one of our lead characters of this movie who ends up having no impact on this narrative whatsoever.

Just as the sun sets, the rivers flow and David DeCoteau directs eight feature films a year, another inevitability has occurred today; new movie trailers have descended from the heavens to deliver new footage of films you may or may not see in the coming months. That's less of a question for me though, I'll almost certainly see all three of these movies. I mean, I saw Fifty Shades Of Black in its theatrical run for Christs sake. At this point, I'll just wander the Earth for the remainder of my days, watching any movie that crosses my path in an attempt sear the memory of films like Sucker Punch from my brain.

Grab An Orc And Watch The First Trailer For Warcraft!

And so, almost two years after it first started filming, the first trailer for Warcraft has debuted today as part of BlizzCon, a convention held by Blizzard Entertainment, the company in charge of the World of Warcraft video games that Warcraft is based on. Unlike other video games that get directed by the likes of Paul W.S. Anderson and John Moore, this one has Duncan Jones helming the project, which is an immensely promising proposition given how great the last film from Jones, Source Code, was. 

Virtual Reality Video For Warcraft Shows Potential Future Of Movie Marketing

The Comic-Con footage of Warcraft, a Duncan Jones directed adaptation of the video game World of Warcraft, didn't light the world up (the footage they showed didn't seem to get a good reception and it being scheduled between the Warner Bros. and Fox panels meant Duncan Jones tale of Orcs got lost amidst Batman v. Superman and Deadpool shenanigans), but a video (which I've embedded below) that allows a viewer to fly over the city of Azeroth (which I assume is crucial to World of Warcraft lore) has certainly garnered quite a bit of attention, and for good reason. That's because it's a video that makes use of virtual reality by allowing a viewer to have a 360 view of the city and all that surrounds it. Just use the arrows at the top left portion of the video to navigate your way through this sensational video.

Are Video Game Movies About To (Finally) Hit The Big Time?

Quick! Name a good video game movie! Can't do it? I don't blame ya*. Movie adaptations of video games have been the sort of affair that sounds good in concept, but falls flat on its face in execution. Critics and audiences have been disdainful of the likes of Need For Speed, and even financially, only one video game film (Laura Croft: Tomb Raider) has crossed $100 million at the domestic box office. Looking at the state of things, it's easy to despair that the idea of a good video game movie is as likely to occur as Half-Life 3.
