Bridge Of Spies Review

It's interesting to compare this summer's biggest film Jurassic World to its predecessor Jurassic Park, especially since it reveals the finer intricacies that make that 1993 motion picture such an involving feature. Not only does Steven Spielberg have a better eye for spectacle than Collin Trevorrow and his blue-soaked visuals (the T-Rex's entrance alone is a master course in pacing), but there's a brain on that movies shoulders, a cerebral streak that makes the world that characters like Alan Grant and Ellie Satler inhabit all the more enriching. Hell, that scene where John Hammond waxes poetic to Satler on why he wanted to make Jurassic Park in the first place over a dish of ice cream is one of the best moments in the entire film.

Don't Go Unbroken My Heart

I find movies that have the elements of greatness and fail to utilize them far more frustrating than an outright terrible film like God's Not Dead or Transformers: Age Of Extinction. Not even Wes Anderson could have made Trans4mers compelling, whereas Unbroken has all the ingredients of being terrific right at it's feet. The story of Louie Zamperini is an astonishing one full of courage and bravery ripe for an effective cinematic depiction, and sadly, Unbroken just doesn't utilize it.

With Paramount Pictures announcing today that The Gambler will go into wide release on Christmas Day, that means the amount of movies opening in wide release between now and Christmas Day is nine. With Paddington and Hot Tub Time Machine 2 moved to 2015, only three movies are now scheduled to be released on Christmas Day. One of those is Unbroken, a film many believe has massive potential for Oscar and box office glory, but I'm not too sure. The first trailer struck me personally as sort of middling; the WWII content seemed enthralling, but the sports stuff just seemed like a parody trailer played straight. But now a new trailer has debuted, attempting to change the tune of skeptics like myself. Check it out below.
