New Release Dates For The Likes Of Barbie, Edgar Wrights New Movie And Bad Boys 3 (And 4!) Announced From Sony

It's been apparent for a while now that Sony is eager to get some major franchises going in the future, the kind that would generate more profits than current releases like Chappie and Pixels. Well, they just announced an onslaught of release dates today, several of which are for films that they obviously hope will generate massive franchises in the future. And yes, as the title of this piece notes, two of those dates for two Bad Boys sequels.

The Wrap is the one behind these new dates, so thanks to them for reporting these. Now, shall we dive into these new release dates in the order that they'll invade multiplexes over the next four years?

First up, the Jodie Foster directed and starring motion picture Money Monster will no debut on April 8, 2016. Next up, a horror movie I've never previously heard of named The Shallows will creep into theaters on June 24, 2016. Paul Feigs Ghostbusters also got a minor date adjustment, with it opening now on July 15, 2016, one week earlier than originally planned. A zombie action thriller named Patient Zero will infect moviegoers over Labor Day weekend 2016 on September 2, 2016.

Denzel Washingtons much anticipated remake of  The Magnificent Seven has been moved up into 2016, four months earlier than originally planned with a September 23, 2016. Considering how well that late September timeframe worked for Washingtons 2014 film The Equalizer (it raked up over $100 million domestically), not a shocker Sony is trying to replicate that success with this release date adjustment. Underworld 5 is the next film to get a date, this one for October 21, 2016.

Passengers, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, will be released on December 21, 2016, while the biggest surprise of this release date announcement comes next in the form of a Jumanji remake set for a December 25, 2016 release. I knew the film was being planned, but I had no idea it was far enough in development to be ready next Christmas. Sonys 2017 slate will be kicked off by the long in development The Dark Tower, which takes over the January 13, 2017 date that The Magnificent Seven previously inhabited.

The final chapter of the epic Resident Evil franchise will now debut on January 27, 2017. Then, on February 17, 2017, Bad Boys 3 will finally arrive after years of speculation. No word on if Michael Bay will return to direct, though recent rumors point to Joe Carnahan taking over the directorial position. Alas, it looks like us Edgar Wright fans have a while to wait until his next movie arrives, as Baby Driver has been given a March 17, 2017 release date. Next up; whose ready for a live-action Barbie movie, written by Diablo Cody, now set for a June 2, 2017 arrival? Let the speculation over who will play Barbie commence! I suggest Margot Robbie, Ellie Kemper or Elizabeth Banks!

That Uncharted movie previously set for a June 2016 release has now been given a June 30, 2017 date, setting it up to compete with Despicable Me 3. That December, Sony Pictures Animation will release the faith based tale The Lamb on December 9, 2017. Finally, Bad Boys 4 is also now in the cards, as Sony has given it a prime July 3, 2019 release date.
