Searching Is As Technologically Savvy As It Is Thrilling

As its marketing has made clear, Searching is a movie that takes place on a computer screen. This format of storytelling is introduced in a brilliant opening sequence that feels akin to that iconic Up opening where we see the married lives of Carl and Ellie go by in the span of a montage. Similarly, Searching opens with a montage that follows the life of 16-year-old Margot Kim (Michelle La) and her family, which also contains her parents David (John Cho) and Pamela (Sara Sohn), from her birth to the present day via various internet functions like home videos and social media posts performed on a computer outfitted with Windows 2001 software (oh God, just seeing the default Windows 2001 background took me back!).

The Last Movie Star Traps Burt Reynolds In An Overly Conventional Tale

Burt Reynolds has been such a prominent figure of American cinema for so long now that it's easy to see an emotionally affecting movie being made out of Reynolds taking a wistful look at his career. But The Last Movie Star is not the thoughtful career retrospective Reynolds deserves, instead being something more akin to that dreadful first Expendables movie than Unforgiven in terms of quality. Writer/director Adam Rifkin delivers a story that's aiming for thoughtfulness but ends up being far too conventional and surface-level for its own good, with its most memorable traits being distracting oddball traits of the project, most notably in that Burt Reynolds is kind of sort of playing himself here.

New Trailer For PIXAR's Inside Out Is Loaded With Emotions

Summer 2015 is just around the corner now, and that time of the years will unleash tons of much anticipated films. One such feature is the newest endeavor from PIXAR, a little animation studio you might have heard of who are responsible for the likes of Ratatouille, Toy Story, WALL-E, Up, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. The newest movie, entitled Inside Out, has just released a new trailer that you can watch below!

What Happened To 3D?

If history has taught us one thing, it's that there's one tactic Hollywood knows how to do perfectly; run something well-liked into the ground.  This doesn't always happen to elements audiences take a shine to, but boy howdy did it ever happen to 3D. A novelty in 2009 has morphed into an everyday part of 2015 moviegoing. Not a beloved part per se, but it's certainly there, if only because international audiences love the format. We credit Avatar for bringing 3D into the mainstream, and that's true, but it actually wasn't the first film to utilize the format. Far from it.

The Next Movie From PIXAR, The Inside Out, Just Got Its First Trailer

I love PIXAR, and I find it a shame they didn't have a film released this particular year, since there's so much I'd love to talk about and discuss regarding their films on this blog. Without a new feature to center my thoughts on their filmography around, I worry any PIXAR editorials I conjure up will be thought of as random or bizarre. But I'll have plenty to talk about now regarding the company since their next feature, The Inside Out, just unleashed its first trailer, which you can watch below!
